1 Dead, 6 Injured After Van Strikes Pedestrians In Lower Manhattan
#Manhattan: At least one person is dead and six others are hurt after they were struck by a van in Chinatown Monday evening.
The incident happened just before 7 p.m. Monday on Canal Street and Forsyth Avenue.
#NYPD says that the driver of the van was attempting to park and accidentally hit the gas pedal, sending the car barreling into pedestrians on the sidewalk.
The victims who survived were taken to Bellevue Hospital. Two were listed in serious condition with life-threatening injuries, two were in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries and two others have minor injuries.
The driver remained at the scene.
No arrests have been made and the investigation remains ongoing.

NYPD cop resigns after writing phony ticket for made-up cyclist
An #NYPD cop has resigned after writing a phony ticket for an imaginary bike rider — and then, in an amazing display of chutzpah, billing the department for four hours of overtime. Varon Shepard, 49, pleaded guilty Thursday in #Manhattan Criminal Court to filing a false instrument. He was given a conditional discharge — the condition was quitting his job.
His supervisor saw Shepard inside the 17th Precinct station house until 12:45 p.m. on Feb. 25. The bicyclist’s offense was supposedly committed at 11 a.m. No “Carlos Dejesus,” the name on the ticket, lived at the address on the summonses.

Manhattan Man Fatally Shot By Stray Bullet While Walking Dog
The #NYPD says a man who was shot and killed while walking his dog in #Manhattan was likely an innocent bystander. Winston McKay, 40, was fatally shot around 2:20 a.m. Monday near Amsterdam Avenue and West 146th Street in #HamiltonHeights.
Police said he was out walking his dog when he came across a confrontation between two men across the street. One shot was fired, striking McKay in the leg. He was taken to the hospital with a severed artery but succumbed to his injuries. Police said he did not appear to be the intended target. No arrests have been made and there’s no word on the suspects.
