In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week.

In observance of #peaceofficersmemorialday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department honors all peace officers across the United States who made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives while serving and protecting their communities.

To all the families who lost a loved one, we will
forever hold you in our hearts. πŸ’™

End of watch September 9, 1930.

Officer Edgar J. Combs was near the end of his shift patrolling at midnight along the Famoso Highway north of Bakersfield, when the front tire of his motorcycle blew out as he was crossing railroad tracks.
