MONROE, Michigan -- Darrian Young, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office animal control officer who was involved in an accident on S. Custer Rd., died early Saturday morning. She was officially pronounced dead at 12:16 a.m., according to Maj. Jeff Kemp. Young, who was driving a fully marked unit, was involved in an accident at Raisinville Rd. where the other driver reportedly was drunk. Once the investigation by the Michigan State Police is concluded, the report will be sent to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office, which will determine if and what criminal charges are to be filed. The driver of the minivan was a 44-year-old woman from Hudson. "Words cannot describe the sorrow that has been cast upon our department during this tragic event," he said. "We ask for continued thoughts and prayers to help Darrian's family and our department deal with this devastating loss." #RIP

An LAPD officer was injured Sunday night after being struck by an arrow fired from a crossbow during a standoff with a man in North Hollywood. Officers were initially called to a residence on Bakman Avenue near Ostego Street around 6:45 p.m. after reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, LAPD Officer Mike Lopez said. Police were alerted to a man wielding a rifle. The LAPD's North Hollywood Division urged residents of the area's Arts District to stay inside as officers negotiated with the man, who had barricaded himself in his home. SWAT was called to the scene, and officers were in the process of evacuating the building at about 10:30 p.m. when the man fired a crossbow at police, LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said. Officers returned fire but did not strike the man. The wounded officer was treated at a local hospital and released. Neither the suspect nor the wounded officer have been identified.

A Chicago police officer was shot in the vest after responding to a domestic disturbance in the Austin neighborhood early Monday morning. The officer was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. He and other officers responded to the 500 block of North Leamington Avenue about 12:20 a.m. because a man fired a handgun three or four times during a domestic disturbance, police said. After they arrived, the man returned to the home through the basement and fired a shot at an officer standing at the top of a staircase. The round hit the officer near his shoulder and was stopped by the officer’s protective vest. He returned fire. No one was struck. Police chased the man and he was arrested a few blocks away, near the corner of Lake Street and Latrobe Avenue, police said. Officers recovered a weapon. No officers were hit and none returned fire. Police found the shell casings on 74th Street, around a corner onto Emerald Avenue, a little more than 45 minutes after the initial burst of gunfire.

An Elkhart man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly deployed an explosive device against police officers during a protest. The incident took place May 30 during a protest in Fort Wayne after a video was released that showed a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on George Floyd, causing his death, on May 25. During the protest, Juan Pablo Gonzalez, 43, allegedly deployed an explosive device that injured an Indiana State Police trooper who was working the protest in the downtown area. According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, the explosion caused serious bodily injury to the trooper, who was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The trooper was treated and released later that night, and has since been able to return to duty. Earlier this week, detectives from ISP, Fort Wayne Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives Task Force were able to positively identify Gonzalez.

Seattle PD hit a 21 year old female directly in the chest with a stun grenade. Volunteer medics and protesters rushed to her aid. After being carried away, she was unresponsive and had no pulse. They revived her, and she remains in critical condition. (source)

Bloody Chicago recorded 18 murders on May 31, making it the city’s deadliest day in 60 years. The dubious milestone was reached on a day Chicago was roiled by another round of protests and looting following the Memorial Day death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis. The 18 deaths tallied by the University of Chicago Crime Lab made May 31, 2020 the single-most violent day in six decades, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The Crime Lab numbers go back only to 1961. On May 29 and May 30, there were seven murders. In a city with an international reputation for crime, the 25 murders on those three days made for the most violent weekend in Chicago’s modern history, according to the paper. Chicago’s next most violent day was Aug. 4, 1991, when 13 murders were recorded.
