Two suspects robbed a jewelry store of more than $150,000 in a broad-daylight heist over the weekend while impersonating NYPD cops amid George Floyd protests raging in the city, federal prosecutors said Monday. Ismael Igartau of Queens and Jose Rodriguez of the Bronx, both 59, were buzzed into a jewelry store on 92nd Street at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday because the storeowner believed they were cops from the 19th Precinct. The suspects were wearing bulletproof vests and one had what appeared to be a detective badge, according to prosecutors. The pair asked to see the storeowner’s pistol permit, claiming firearms at city stores were at risk of being stolen because of looting in the city, prosecutors said. They pulled out guns and zip-tied the owner’s wrists, a federal complaint said. They grabbed between $150,000 and $165,000 worth of jewelry and fled the store. But the store owner called the police, who nabbed the two men at a nearby subway station.

Seven people were wounded in three shootings just 10 minutes apart Monday night in different Brooklyn neighborhoods. The gunplay started at about 10:40 p.m. on Bainbridge Street near Malcolm X Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Two men, ages 27 and 34, were each struck in the leg, authorities said. They were taken to Kings County Hospital and were expected to survive. Less than five minutes later, a 35-year-old man was shot on Flatbush Avenue near Ditmas Avenue in Flatbush, police said. He, too, was taken to Kings County Hospital and is expected to survive. Finally, at about 10:50 p.m., four people — a woman and three men — were caught in a hail of gunfire on Bristol Street near Newport Street in Brownsville, authorities and witnesses said. The woman, 23, is in critical condition and the men — ages 17, 35, and 50 — all suffered non-life threatening injuries. A witness to the Brownsville shooting, 55-year-old Robert Green, said so many shots were fired that he lost count.

Los Angeles prosecutors on Monday announced they will not bring charges against protesters who violated the city’s curfew and other police orders to disperse during demonstrations sparked by the death of George Floyd. City Attorney Mike Feuer said his office will develop an alternative court that will not punish those cited for violating curfew or failing to obey orders to leave protests. District Attorney Jackie Lacey said she won't file charges in protest misdemeanor cases from other parts of Los Angeles County. The announcement came amid nationwide demonstrations against police brutality and racial injustice in the wake of Floyd’s death while in police custody. Los Angeles saw the largest number of protest arrests in the U.S. tracked by The Associated Press, which tallied over 10,000 people arrested nationwide. LA police and sheriff's deputies arrested more than 3,000 people over days of mostly peaceful protests. Most citations happened in Los Angeles for violating curfew or dispersal orders.

A video showing Alameda police officers arresting an African American man who had been exercising in the street has gone viral and has prompted a response from city officials. The video shows four Alameda police officers restraining the unidentified man and wrestling him to the ground on the 2000 block of Central Ave. in Alameda. Alameda Police released several officer body camera videos of the incident along with the audio of the call to police dispatchers reporting an African American man walking and dancing in the street.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Fort Worth Police and Firefighters Memorial was vandalized sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, according to a Facebook post on the Fort Worth Police Officers’ Association’s page. According to photos accompanying the post, the letters BLM, which stands for Black Lives Matter, were painted on stone markers and sidewalks at the memorial. Police are investigating but have not immediately responded to questions as to whether there is any evidence or speculation that the vandalism is related to recent protests in Fort Worth sparked by the in-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis or any of the in-custody deaths of African-Americans that have occurred in Fort Worth. The FWPOA Facebook post says that overnight, the Fort Worth Police & Firefighters Memorial was vandalized by criminals, causing significant damage to the stone walls and sidewalks.

A convicted felon has been charged by federal prosecutors with possessing a Molotov cocktail at a Florida George Floyd protest. The charges stem from Ivan Jacob Zecher’s arrest by Jacksonville police on May 31 after a peaceful protest in downtown Jacksonville turned violent, the Florida Times-Union reported. He was charged in federal court with possessing a firearm as a felon and possessing an unregistered firearm, Jacksonville U.S. Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez said. Zecher, 27, was accused of being part of a group of protesters blocking traffic and throwing items such as water bottles and rocks at police officers and cars. “After refusing orders to disperse, Zecher was arrested by officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office for unlawful assembly,” Lopez said. A subsequent search of his backpack revealed a liquor bottle that smelled strongly of gasoline, a lighter, and a hatchet. Zecher admitted that he was holding the bottle in his backpack for an associate, and that he knew the bottle contained gasoline.”
