WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! Jacksonville PD, Frlorida: Critical Incident Review 20-0004. A Jacksonville police officer shot and wounded a man armed with a large butcher knife, after a witness said minutes earlier Saturday morning had threatened to rob and stab someone because he needed money. John Robert Ritter Jr., 39, was hospitalized in stable condition following the #shooting about 9:11 a.m. near Northside Grocery at Trout River Boulevard and Lem Turner Road, T.K. Waters. Officers say, Ritter tried to commit the robbery, would not put down the knife and ran away from police. Officer Tim J. Davis, an 11-year Sheriff’s Office veteran, chased after him and tried to taze him but was not successful. One shot was then fired by the officer, hitting Ritter. There were no injuries to the officer, and the suspect has been transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

On April 23rd, 2021 around 2:25 a.m., LAPD North Hollywood Division officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect armed with a knife at an apartment complex in the 5200 block of Whitsett Avenue. When the officers arrived, they encountered an adult man in the open-air walkway of the complex. He was holding the handle of a knife that appeared to be stuck in his neck. On April 27, 2021 at approximately 1:24 a.m., LAPD Transit Services Division officers were at Washington Blvd and Maple Ave when they heard what appeared to be gunshots. The officers saw a white Jeep Cherokee fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. As the officers followed the vehicle, the officers saw the driver of the Jeep shoot into a white Tesla. On April 28, 2021, at approximately 2:25 p.m., Van Nuys uniform officers responded to a radio call of "Shots Fired" at the 5200 block of Vesper Avenue in Van Nuys. The officers found an off-duty LAPD officer with gunshot wounds at the scene as well as a male Hispanic suspect, also suffering from gunshot wounds. A preliminary investigation revealed the off-duty officer encountered the suspect inside the off-duty officer's garage. The suspect armed himself with a firearm, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. The suspect and officer exchanged gunfire. The suspect was identified as Christopher Carmarena-Quintanilla and arrested at scene by responding officers and transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment. The Phoenix Police Department released a Critical Incident Briefing video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved #shooting which occurred on May 30th, 2021, in the area of 39th Avenue and Thunderbird Road. Officers responded to a report of a violation of an order of protection. When first officer arrived at the residence, he immediately encountered the suspect who pointed a gun at the officer. The officer and suspect exchanged gunfire, and the suspect was struck. Officers provided first aid until Phoenix Fire personnel arrived and transported the suspect to nearby hospital for treatment. WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! Phoenix PD: Critical Incident Briefing: Officer-involved #Shooting 15th Ave. and Camelback Rd. This incident started when a Phoenix Police Officer observed an adult male, later identified as 39-year-old William Brookins, pointing a gun at a man and a woman. The officer was fully uniformed, working off-duty, and had just finished his shift conducting traffic control at a nearby intersection when he overheard a loud commotion and observed Brookins pointing a handgun at a man and woman. At this time, the officer approached on foot, drew his duty weapon and told Brookins to drop his gun. Brookins did not respond to the commands, and the officer fired, striking Brookins. Immediately after the shooting, the officer and backup officers approached Brookins and moved his gun away from him. WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! IMPD has released a video detailing the events of a northwest side #shooting that left an officer and two others injured. It happened Saturday, May 29. It started around 3:40 p.m. in the 6400 block of Kentstone Drive, near West 62nd Street and Rodebaugh Road. Keith Allender, 21, is accused of shooting a 38-year-old man who was doing yardwork on his property and his 61-year-old mother who was inside a car with a 3-year-old. The toddler was unharmed. After shooting those two, police say Allender then drove away and intentionally hit a woman with his SUV. Police said Allender then led officers on a chase. They tried to stop him around 3:45 p.m. near 62nd Street and Michigan Road, and police said he got out of his vehicle, shot at officers -- hitting Officer Elizabeth Iversen's patrol car -- and drove off again. The Phoenix Police Department released a Critical Incident Briefing video that includes audio, visuals and information related to an officer-involved #shooting which occurred on July 8, 2021, in the area of 27th Avenue and Augusta Avenue. This incident started when a man, later identified as Stanley Howard, called 911 and requested police officers respond to his residence. Officers responded at approximately 8:20 p.m. When they contacted him, he was uncooperative and broke a window, injuring his hand in the process. Howard called 911 again and officers returned to the home at about 8:30 p.m., to offer medical aid for his injured hand. Again, he was uncooperative. Howard continued calling 911 13 more times over the next 45 minutes. At about 9:10 p.m., Phoenix Fire personnel were dispatched to Howards home to provide medical aid. (Read the Full Story.)

On June 24th, 2021 around 10:40 p.m., LAPD 77th Street Gang Enforcement Detail officers were in the area of 88th Street and Normandie Avenue. They saw a man, later identified as 38-year-old Darryl Grant, standing next to a vehicle parked in the alley south of 88th Street and east of Normandie Avenue. The officers saw what they believed was a handgun in Grant's sweatshirt pocket. The officers attempted to detain Grant, who removed the handgun from the pocket; at which time there was an officer-involved shooting. Grant was not struck by gunfire and was taken into custody. WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! The LAPD has released dramatic bodycam footage of a #shooting in June off the 5 Freeway in Arleta which left an armed reckless driving suspect dead. On June 28th, 2021 around 9:58 a.m., LAPD Mission Patrol officers were in the area of Osborne St & Laurel Canyon Blvd. The officers saw a motorist driving recklessly and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The driver fled in his vehicle, resulting in a vehicle pursuit. The motorist drove northbound on the 5 Freeway and exited at the Terra Bella St off-ramp, where he lost control of his vehicle. After the vehicle came to a rest in the dirt section of the off-ramp, the driver exited the vehicle armed with a pistol. The driver pointed the pistol at officers, resulting in an Officer Involved Shooting. The driver was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics where he was pronounced deceased. WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! LAPD Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved #Shooting that occurred in Pacific Division. On July 26, 2021, LAPD Pacific Patrol Division officers responded to a radio call of a “hot prowl burglary” at an apartment in the 3700 block of Barry Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers heard yelling and saw the suspect, later identified as 58-year-old Herman Gonzalez, through the broken front window of the apartment. Gonzalez was in the front living room, armed with a large kitchen knife. Gonzalez was holding the knife against an elderly woman, shielding himself behind her, as they walked toward the front door of the apartment. The officers gave Gonzalez multiple commands to drop the knife; however, he refused to comply; resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.

On July 26, 2021, around 8:50 p.m., LAPD Rampart Patrol Division officers responded to a radio call of a man holding a knife in the area of Union Avenue and Pico Boulevard. As officers arrived, they saw the suspect, later identified as 43-year-old Samuel Soto, holding a knife. Soto was told to drop the knife, however he refused to comply. Soto charged at one of the officers, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. Soto was struck by gunfire, fell to the ground, and dropped the knife. Soto stood up and chased officers who were at scene. As additional officers arrived at the location, Soto removed a dark object from his pants pocket.
