Powerful storms in parts of the South were being blamed for at least 11 deaths. Alabama officials reported that three people were killed in a tornado in Pickens County. Earlier Saturday, firefighters in Bossier Parish, La., sifted through a trailer demolished…
Two first responders in Texas are among the 11 dead after a storm system spawned severe weather across southern parts of the U.S. while blanketing northern regions with a dangerous icy mix and gusty winds that have knocked out power to thousands. Officials in Lubbock, Texas said a police officer and two firefighters were hit by a car while working the scene of a traffic accident Saturday morning on the northbound lanes of Interstate 27 at Drew Street in dangerous conditions caused by winter weather. Police Officer Nicholas Reyna, 27, who had been with the department for one year, died at the scene. Firefighter Lt. David Hill, 39, was taken to a local hospital where he later died.

Rest In Peace, Heroes💙💔🖤

Firefighter Matthew Dawson, 30, was hospitalized in critical condition. Our prayers are with him.🙏🏻

Lakewood Police said Sunday they shot and killed a man suspected of robbing a bank a day earlier in Longmont, reported FOX31. Police spokesperson John Romero said the person who died is Thomas Charles Snyder II, 52, who Longmont police also suspected of stealing a rental vehicle before the armed bank robbery at the Bank of the West on 5th Avenue and Coffman Street. Lakewood Police said in a press release that the shooting happened Sunday morning after an hours-long standoff at a motel. Police said they were called around 1 a.m. to the American Motel at 10101 W. Interstate 70 Frontage Road N., where "a wanted adult male was staying at the motel." SWAT officers arrived on scene and tried to talk the man out of the room for about two hours, according to the release. They said once SWAT officers entered the room about 3:05 a.m., "they encountered the suspect armed with a handgun."

A man managed to survive more than three weeks in the rugged Alaskan wilderness after his remote cabin burned down until he was rescued last week by state troopers who spotted an "SOS" signal stamped in the snow, FOX News reports. Alaska State Troopers said in a news release that 30-year-old Tyson Steele was found at a makeshift shelter at his remote homestead about 20 miles outside of Skwentna, located about 70 miles northwest of Anchorage. Officials were conducting a welfare check on Steele after he had not been heard from for "several weeks" when they arrived in a helicopter in the remote area to find the 30-year-old waving for help and "SOS" stamped in the snow. #fuck_lucky
The devastation of the bushfires, which continue to run rampant across the nation, has given rise to a number of incredible fundraising projects, but this next initiative is most certainly in a (w)hole league of its own – Brisbane sex toy supplier Geeky Sex Toys has released a special donation dildo, with 100% of the proceeds going towards bushfire recovery. You simply have no choice but to stan patriotic penetration. J’adore. The ‘Down-Under Donation Dildo’ has been created to inevitably aid those most affected by the fires. “This silicone toy was designed specifically as our way to help out our neighbours in need,” their website reads. “Buying a sex toy has never felt so good.” The dildo is aptly-priced at $69, but there’s also the option to include an additional donation. 🔥

An off-duty sheriff's detective was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday after she helped an elderly woman cross the street in Los Angeles Calif., Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. The accident occurred around 11 a.m. when 41-year-old Amber Leist, a 12-year veteran of the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, returned to her car after assisting two people crossing the road in the Valley Village area. “While she was returning to her vehicle, she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Riverside Drive when the light had turned green,” Villanueva said at a 6 p.m. news conference on Sunday. Leist was transported to a local area hospital where she was pronounced dead, Villanueva said. The driver reportedly stopped at the scene was cooperating with investigators. "Today the LA County Sheriff's Department is grieving," Villanueva said. "We are shocked and stunned by the sudden loss of a family member."

New images show damage caused by Iranian missile strike on US military base in Iraq as soldiers clear the compound. US troops were today clearing rubble and debris from a military base in Iraq which was attacked by Iranian missiles last week at the height of the Middle East crisis. The barrage on the Ain al-Asad base in Iraq left huge craters in the ground and damaged military trailers in the compound. New pictures which were released today showed bulldozers and fork-lift trucks clearing rubble from an area the size of a football stadium. No US soldiers were killed or seriously harmed in the missile attack, but the high tensions prompted a disastrous error by Iran's Revolutionary Guards who shot down a passenger plane just hours later with 176 people on board.

The five largest US carriers are not protecting customers from SIM-swap attacks, according to a new study, Mail Online reports. Researchers at Princeton University contacted AT&T, T-Mobile, Tracfone, US Mobile and Verizon Wireless and found they all used ‘insecure authentication challenges that could be easily subverted by attackers’. Out of 50 SIM swap attempts, 39 of them were successful just by simply by telling representatives they had forgotten the answers to the security questions. The team noted that they had repeatedly given incorrect answers, but were still permitted to switch to a different SIM in a smartphone. ⚠️
