The shooting carried out by a Saudi aviation student at Naval Air Station Pensacola in December was an "act of terrorism," Attorney General William Barr said Monday as officials released their findings from their investigation into the attack. Barr said the gunman, identified as Royal Saudi Air Force 2nd Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, was "motivated by jihadist ideology." His comments came as the U.S. was expelling 21 Saudi nationals living in America who, like Alshamrani, trained with the U.S. military at facilities including NAS Pensacola. "During the course of the investigation, we learned that the shooter posted a message on September 11, [2019] stating, ‘the countdown has begun,’" Barr said. "During the Thanksgiving weekend, he then visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York City. "He also posted other anti-American, anti-Israeli and jihadi messages on social media, including two hours before his attack," Barr added.

This weekend, amid a warm winter weather stretch for Baltimore, 15 people were shot and five of those victims died, leaving residents in shock about deadly gun crime and angry at the city’s leadership. “We want a life plan,” a group of residents shouted Sunday as they held protest signs showing the city’s homicide counts for previous years, reported FOX News. The phrase was a play on the much-touted crime plan that Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison unveiled last year as a blueprint to fight crime and reform the police department. Harrison’s five-year crime-fighting plan includes the goals of responding calls for police within 10 minutes and increasing the number of police officers. Harrison said detectives have been working to identify suspects of the weekend shootings, and the department has redeployed officers and #SWAT and #K9 units to the affected areas.
