Yesterday marked one week since Officer Kevin Van Wert was seriously injured in the line of duty. Officer Van Wert suffered catastrophic injuries that he will have to live with for the rest of his life, including having his right arm amputated. At this time, Officer Van Wert is still in the hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. He has a long road ahead of him, but we are thankful that he is still here with us.

Kevin has a long road ahead of him as he recovers. He has already had several surgeries and has more scheduled. But most importantly, Officer Van Wert, his family, and his friends could use prayers as they navigate this time.

Last night, we gathered for a joint third shift roll call at Lexington Christian Academy, which is across the street from where Officer Van Wert was injured. This offered us, as a department, the chance to start the healing process and to provide our officers and employees with an update on Kevin. Officers and employees from every shift and unit in the department showed up to honor Officer Van Wert, and we were even joined by our friends from the Lexington Fire Department.

We want to thank Lexington Christian Academy for letting us use their space and everyone who came out last night.
