Russian president Vladimir Putin dived to the bottom of the Gulf of Finland aboard a submersible to explore a Soviet submarine which was sunk during World War Two. The Shchuka-class submarine Shch-308 sunk in October 1942 near the island of Gogland, west of St Petersburg, the Russian capital. The hull of the sunken submarine was discovered in September 2018 lying on the seabed north of Bolshoi Tyuters Island. It is thought to have been sunk after hitting a German mine and all of the 40-man crew were killed.

A 38-year-old man has died following a mass shooting at a park in New York City. Eleven other people - including a child - were injured as a hail of gunfire erupted at Brownsville Playground in Brooklyn at around 11pm on Saturday night. The area was teeming with locals who were out celebrating 'Old Timers Week' - an annual community block party in its 56th year. A single shooter - still at large - is believed to be responsible for the tragedy, according to The New York Post. Following the incident, scores of police and EMS response teams descended upon the area before victims were rushed to nearby hospitals. An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was shot and killed at a Lincoln Heights taco stand early Saturday and authorities are searching for a suspect. Officer Juan Jose Diaz, 24, was out with his girlfriend and two other males when he was shot, according to an official who had been briefed on the investigation but was not authorized to speak publicly. Diaz was standing in line at the food truck with his girlfriend and two other males when he noticed a man vandalizing something nearby and approached him, the official said. The official did not know if Diaz identified himself as a police officer. The man left and a short time later returned with a group of other males and lifted up his shirt to display a handgun, the official said. The official added that Diaz and the others tried to get into a car to avoid violence but the man started shooting. 👮🏻‍♂️😢
