President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill suspending Russia's participation in a pivotal nuclear arms treaty. Putin's decree released on Wednesday formalises Russia's departure from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty with the United States following Washington's withdrawal from the pact. The US gave notice of its intention to withdraw from the INF in February, setting the stage for it to terminate in six months unless Moscow returns to compliance. It comes as Russia announced it had sent two of its newest and most powerful ships to the Norwegian Sea for exercises.
Several gun advocacy groups filed a lawsuit this week challenging new California rules banning the sale of firearms to people under 21, arguing that people between 18 and 20 years old are adults with the legal right to bear arms. The lawsuit, filed in San Diego on Monday, targets multiple California laws, including one introduced last year by Democratic state Sen. Anthony Portantino following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
