A 17-year-old from Illinois accused of killing two BLM-hyenas in Kenosha, Wisconsin, has been extradited to stand trial on homicide charges, with sheriff's deputies in Illinois handing him over to their counterparts in Wisconsin shortly after a judge approved the contested extradition. In his afternoon ruling rejecting Kyle Rittenhouse's bid to remain in Illinois, Judge Paul Novak noted that defense attorneys had characterized the Wisconsin charges as politically motivated. Immediately after Novak issued the ruling at the courthouse in Waukegan, Illinois, deputies with Illinois' Lake County Sheriff's Office picked up Rittenhouse and drove him five miles (eight kilometers) to the Illinois-Wisconsin border, sheriff's office spokesman Christopher Covelli told The Associated Press. Rittenhouse was turned over to Kenosha County sheriff deputies at the state line at around 3:45 p.m., Covelli said. The ruling and speedy transfer came several hours after a hearing Friday morning in which Judge Novak heard arguments for and against extradition. The shootings happened Aug. 25, two days after a white police officer trying to arrest Jacob Blake shot the 29-year-old Black man seven times in the back, paralyzing him from the waist down. Video of the police shooting sparked outrage and helped spur on the protests. Rittenhouse's case has become a rallying point for some conservatives who see him as a patriot who was exercising his right to bear arms during unrest. Others portray him as a domestic terrorist who incited protesters by showing up wielding a rifle. At Friday's hearing, Rittenhouse's lawyer said he'd had a change of heart since notifying the court that he planned to call witnesses, including Rittenhouse's mother. Instead, John Pierce focused on what he called "fatal defects" in extradition papers. A local prosecutor said the law is unambiguous in requiring Rittenhouse's extradition. #FreeKyle

Amid worries about civil unrest and violence following the presidential election and possible shortages of poll workers on Nov. 3 itself, more state leaders are considering deployment of the National Guard. Although the U.S. military is generally left out of the election process, polling locations attempting to manage impossibly long voting lines may not be in a position to turn away help from the Guard, whose members would fill in as plainclothes poll workers or help to monitor cybersecurity. In key battleground states such as the Rust Belt's Wisconsin and the Sun Belt's Arizona, governors have already announced they could or would activate the National Guard to help with security. Wisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers said Thursday that he would deploy around 400 members to compensate for poll worker shortages.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has released the bodycam footage of the deputy-involved #shooting that killed a 25-year-old man. Back on October 16, LASD responded to a call in the area of 121st Street and Willowbrook Avenue in Willowbrook. LASD says Fred Williams III ran from deputies when they arrived on scene. Deputies say Williams was armed and ran down the driveway of the home. Trailing Williams was a deputy and LASD said the 25-year-old man pointed a gun at the deputy, prompting the deputy to shoot multiple rounds at Williams. The shooting killed Williams on scene and deputies recovered an unregistered semi-automatic pistol. The deadly shooting prompted the local community to hold protests and demonstrations, demanding #LASD to release videos of the incident.

Comedian Bill Maher used his show on Friday night to urge America that, regardless of who wins on Tuesday, they should 'skip the civil war and go right to reconciliation.' The New York-born comic joked that America was a family, and as such should learn to live with tension. 'Thirty-four percent of the voters believe there will be another Civil War within the next five years and I'd like to remind them of one thing: America is a family and the definition of family is people who hate each other without resorting to violence,' he said. KATY, Texas — Deputies arrested a Katy man on drug charges and recovered thousands of stolen power tools stored in his home. The value of the stolen merchandise is estimated to be more than a million dollars. Precinct 5 deputies, working with the Texas Department of Public Safety, executed a search warrant in the 1500 block of Hoveden on Wednesday, October 28. Inside the home, deputies found floor-to-ceiling, organized stacks of power tools, tool sets and other items, many of them believed to be stolen from Home Depot stores in the Houston area as well as other states. Steven Lane Skarritt, 62, was arrested on felony charges of drug possession and delivery. Investigators are still looking into who is responsible for the theft and resale of the merchandise. Further charges may be forthcoming.
