A New York City man who was caught on camera allegedly attempting to rape a 25-year-old woman on an Upper East Side subway platform has been arrested. Detectives with the 23rd Precinct took Jose Reyes, a Bronx resident, into custody on Sunday at 12:29pm at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and East 105th Street in East Harlem. He has been charged with attempted rape, assault and harassment. Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison said during a press conference that police used the NYPD's facial recognition program to identify Reyes. The program matched an image of Reyes' face to a previous mugshot he acquired earlier this year from a criminal mischief arrest. Harrison also said that three tips reported to the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline helped locate Reyes.

A Detroit man was arrested Thursday night in Sandy Springs after hitting a police car with a stolen Jeep and wrecking soon after, authorities said. About 10 p.m. Thursday, an officer spotted a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee that was traveling south on Roswell Road near I-285, Sandy Springs police said in a news release. The officer attempted a traffic stop, which is when things quickly escalated. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Blake Benford, “recklessly pulled out of a parking lot” and struck a patrol car, the release said. The officer was not injured. The department provided dashcam video of the incident, which shows the Jeep strike the front of the patrol car before speeding away. (Read the Full Story.)

Officer Tamarris Bohannon suffered a head wound when he was shot while responding to a late-afternoon call involving a gunman, St. Louis Police Commissioner John Hayden told reporters Saturday. After Bohannon was shot, one of the officers who was working to assist him was shot in the leg by the same suspect, Hayden said. Bohannon, who was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, died Sunday. Bohannon was the eighth St. Louis officer shot since June, Hayden said. News of the arrangement broke Friday, the same day the council voted 12-0 to abolish the Minneapolis Police Department in the wake of the killing of George Floyd. “My concern is the large number of white nationalist(s) in our city and other threatening communications I’ve been receiving,” Councilmember Andrea Jenkins told Fox 9 News — adding that she had been asking for private security ever since she took office in 2018.
