WARNING! GRAPHIC CONTENT! Footage from several Fullerton Police Department officers’ body cameras released Wednesday provides new information on a May 3 police shooting that left a man dead after he disregarded officers’ orders to drop his knife. Fullerton police said in the “critical incident” briefing that an officer stopped on the 2200 block of Commonwealth Avenue after he saw two men struggling near a truck at around 9:30 p.m. One of the men was carrying a stick and another was carrying a knife, police said. Body camera footage showed the officer yelling at Leon to get out of the truck and put the knife down. He did this while pointing his gun at Leon. The man who had dropped the stick got down onto his knees after other officers arrived. #shooting
The Russian president offers a comprehensive assessment of the legacy of World War II, arguing that "Today, European politicians, and Polish leaders in particular, wish to sweep the Munich Betrayal under the carpet. The Munich Betrayal showed to the Soviet Union that the Western countries would deal with security issues without taking its interests into account." Seventy-five years have passed since the end of the Great Patriotic War. Several generations have grown up over the years. The political map of the planet has changed. The Soviet Union that claimed an epic, crushing victory over Nazism and saved the entire world is gone. Besides, the events of that war have long become a distant memory, even for its participants. So why does Russia celebrate the 9th of May as the biggest holiday? Why does life almost come to a halt on June 22? And why does one feel a lump rise in their throat?

A fast-moving wildfire in Northern California destroyed several homes on Wednesday, while another blaze -- the largest the U.S. -- grew to more than 100,000 acres in Arizona. The fires are among several burning across the western part of the country as dry conditions, low humidity and gusty winds increase fire danger in the region. In California, CAL Fire said a fast-moving grass fire known as the Nelson Fire broke out around 11:49 a.m. in Thermalito, about 68 miles north of Sacramento. Fire officials said it scorched 95 acres, destroyed three homes and damaged two others. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office ordered evacuations for the neighborhood until firefighters were able to fully contain the blaze. New evacuation orders were ordered Thursday by the Pima County Sheriff's Department for the Willow Canyon area as the fire continues to spread.

Workers at the Denver Zoo treated a grizzly bear to one of life’s simple bare necessities: a bubble bath. The zoo shared video on Wednesday of the bear, named Tundra, as she first discovered the tub of bubbles in her enclosure. After discovering the tub, Tundra immediately investigated, spending a few moments sniffing and sticking her paws in the bubbles. She eventually jumped in and enjoyed the bath. Tundra has seen bubbles before, the zoo said, but this was the first time she’s seen them in this set-up. “This type of enrichment is particularly fun because it encourages Tundra to investigate, and to cool off on hot summer days like today,” the zoo wrote. The temperature in Denver on Wednesday was reported to be in the 90s, according to The Weather Channel.
San Joaquin County Sheriff's K-9 Kimbo was stabbed by a man with a knife during a domestic dispute Wednesday. Stockton police officers were called to the Mormon Slough area near Hazelton Avenue and California Street at about 3:50 p.m. on a report of a female screaming and a male stating he was going to stab her, according to a news release from police posted on Facebook late Wednesday. The ex-husband became aggressive towards officers and was shot with bean-bag rounds, authorities said, and sheriff's K-9s were also deployed. While taking the suspect into custody, he allegedly stabbed sheriff K-9 Kimbo twice with a knife, and officers used their Tasers to take him into custody. Kimbo was transported to a veterinary hospital for treatment and is expected to fully recover. #K9
