The New York Police Department released surveillance video showing a quartet of suspects - two of them wearing surgical masks - walking down a hallway at Hotel Ninety Five in Queens when robber falls out of second-story window and lands on his face but gets up and escapes. According to the police department, at around 6.20pm on February 24, the four perpetrators entered the hotel on 95th Street in Queens, knocked on a suite door and attempted to rob a 20-year-old guest. Spring Breakers ignored coronavirus warnings to play volleyball and enjoy the beach in Clearwater, Florida, as city officials moved to shut down access by Monday. Fun-seeking sun worshipers ignored social-distancing warnings and were jammed on the sand in defiance in the city, where business owners dependent on local tourism had pleaded with local officials to not close the beach. Officials were hard-pressed to act with other Florida beaches closing and the escalating impacts of the coronavirus pandemic, which has infected thousands around the world. So far, there have been 563 confirmed cases in Florida and 11 known deaths from the infection. #facepalm

A major storm that has been battering the southeastern United States now stretches 1,000 miles from Texas to Iowa and Ohio, and has left five people dead while another person is still missing. The deaths came when heavy rains and flooding washed away a bridge in Southeast Indiana early on Friday morning. The incident happened as two vehicles, a van and a pickup truck, were traveling across the bridge in the tiny township of Laurel, Indiana, which is about halfway between Indianapolis and Cincinnati. Five bodies have so far been found while a search continued for much of Friday for the sixth individual. The cold front is expected to continue to move into the deep South on Friday night complete with heavy rain, hail and damaging winds.
