The border between the US and Mexico was deserted on Saturday, following President Trump's announcement he was closing the southern border. Pictures reveal the difference a day can make, with the San Ysidro port of entry at the border barren of all people and cars on Saturday. The aerial shots show the border crossing at Tijuana, Baja California state, in Mexico empty as the latest US travel restrictions come into force. Just 24 hours earlier, the very same spot was heaving as lines of vehicles snaked through the parking lot waiting to pass through the US Customs and Border Protection point into the US.

The Detroit Police Department is working the streets with 157 fewer cops as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The department said 152 of those officers have been quarantined due to the virus. Another five have tested positive. One civilian member of the department has also tested positive. "I've not seen anything like this," Detroit Police Chief James Craig told a news conference, according to news radio station WWJ-AM. "It's certainly a cause for concern,โ€ he said, adding that at this point our services will not change." The station quoted Craig as denying his officers were turning a blind eye to crime, especially low-level misdemeanors. A few days ago, Craig gave officers discretion in handling those minor crimes. The chief said arrests were continuing without disruption. The station reported that DPDโ€™s 9th precinct had been the hardest hit by the quarantine order.

With the American population fighting over a single precious roll of toilet paper amid the coronavirus outbreak, police in North Carolina uncovered nearly 18,000 pounds of commercial bathroom paper products inside a stolen tractor-trailer. Police said they aren't releasing the name of the driver because the topic of toilet paper is โ€œfairly sensitive right now.โ€ "After further investigation, it was determined the 53-foot Hyundai dry-van trailer was reported stolen locally and was being utilized to transport nearly 18,000 pounds of commercial bathroom paper products," the Guilford County Sheriff's Office said in a news release. Deputies initiated the investigation over a reported violation of the state's motor vehicle law by the driver of the 18-wheel tractor-trailer traveling on Interstate 40 in Whitsett, N.C., the release said.
