A California man faces four years in prison for attacking a bar patron who was wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat in a restroom last year, officials said Wednesday. David Delgado, 32, pleaded no contest to one count of felony assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. The attack happened on Sept. 2, 2019, at a restaurant in downtown Hermosa Beach. The victim was wearing a red hat with white lettering written in Russian that translated to “Make America Great Again,” a prosecutor said. Authorities said they used surveillance footage to identify Delgado and arrest him at his home without incident Oct. 1. Delgado is scheduled to be sentenced May 28.
Gusty winds in Indiana are being blamed for a series of crashes on an interstate that closed the busy road for hours. One multi-vehicle crash was in the northbound lanes of Interstate 65, about 91 miles northwest of Indianapolis, the Indiana State Police said in a news release. According to a preliminary investigation, several semi-trucks were traveling in the northbound lanes when "a strong gust of wind blew across the interstate from the west," causing one trailer to "become airborne" and strike another truck in the right lane, said Sgt. Glen Fifield. "Both drivers then lost control of their vehicles, with one striking the median guardrail before hitting the concrete bridge abutment," Fifield noted. "The cab of the truck then separated from the frame." The first truck ended up crashing into a creek as the cab came to a stop on its side in the median. The second truck involved wound up in a nearby ditch. Images released by police showed the extent of the damage.
A man dressed as the Batman villain The Joker, who livestreamed himself this week allegedly threatening to bomb and kill people along the Delmar Loop in suburban St. Louis, Mo., was charged with making a terrorist threat, a felony, according to a published report Wednesday. Prosecutors said Jeremy J. Garnier was first seen outfitted as The Joker – complete with makeup – at around 8:15 p.m. at the Blueberry Hill bar and restaurant, where he was reported to have made threats, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. Someone reported Garnier to police for making threats using his Facebook Live app. When police responded, they were told the incident involved an active shooter.

The US coronavirus death toll has risen to 12 after a woman in her 90s died in Washington state. In total, 11 people have now died in Washington and one death has been reported in California as the number of cases in the U.S. soars to more than 200 across 19 states. It comes as health officials in Washington, who are dealing with the worst of the COVID-19 outbreak in the United States, bought a $4 million motel and set up a #coronavirus quarantine site made up of 'mini hotel room' trailers for infected patients. The number of cases in Washington alone jumped to 70 with health officials there scrambling to keep the coronavirus at bay. An increase in testing countrywide has seen a jump in confirmed cases in Washington state, California and New York - with Nevada and Tennessee each reporting their first cases in the last 24 hours. The cases in New York state jumped to 22 after a Manhattan attorney infected more than a dozen people, including his own family, and multiple other unrelated cases were announced.
