BREAKING NEWS! Iran today pinpointed 35 'key US targets' as it unfurled a red flag of revenge after its top general was assassinated in a US drone strike. The chilling display is seen as a clear warning the Islamic Republic is ready to fulfil its worrying pledge to strike back, the Sun reports. Chillingly written across the "war flag" were the words: "Those who want to avenge the blood of Hussein." Red flags in Shiite tradition symbolise both blood spilled unjustly and serve as a call to avenge a person who is slain. It was hoisted above the important Jamkaran Mosque which is on the outskirts of the holy city of Qom, about 100 miles south of Tehran.

General Gholamali Abhuhamzeh raised the potential threat after Iran’s President Rouhani chillingly vowed to exact revenge for the killing of General Qassem Soleimani. Abuhamzeh said vital American targets in the region had been identified a ‘long time ago’ and included ships in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and Tel Aviv. He said: 'The Strait of Hormuz is a vital point for the West and a large number of American destroyers and warships cross there … some 35 U.S. targets in the region as well as Tel Aviv are within our reach,’ he said. A senior U.S. congressional staffer told Time that a retaliation attack could be seen ‘within week’s’, either at home or abroad. The staffer said: 'There is no indication that there is going to be a de-escalation in the near future. The only question is how bad is the retaliation going to be and where and what is it going to hit.'

Police say the clubhouse was left partially damaged in the attack, which took place late on Thursday night. While no one was injured in the attack, sources on Facebook claim that at least 14 shots were fired into the building- an act which has terrified local residents who were already nervous about the gang's move into the area. 'Everyone's worst fears have materialized,' Bronx Community Board 10 District Manager Matt Cruz told The New York Daily News. 'The community is upset and scared,' he added. 'We are on heightened alert for this and we're hoping the #NYPD can get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible and we're sure they will.' No arrests have yet been made over Thursday's incident. #NY

A transgender taxi driver who was also active in his local LGBTQ community was found shot dead behind the wheel of his car in Oklahoma earlier this week. Dustin Parker, 25, was found dead behind the wheel of his taxi in McAlester on Wednesday, according to authorities. Police say Parker was shot dead just after 6.30am on New Year’s Day. Police are currently searching for a suspect. Investigators say they do not know the motive for the shooting, according to ABC News. Thousands celebrated a new year by waiting in long lines to be among the first to legally buy marijuana for recreational use in Illinois on the day the state lifted its long-standing prohibition, the Chicago Tribune reports. Anyone 21 and over can now buy and possess recreational marijuana in Illinois. Some residents wasted little time lining up. “I couldn’t believe that many people came out so early,” said Cal Marek, who captured video outside a dispensary in suburban Chicago. The mood was festive Wednesday as customers queued up — some overnight — to buy cannabis flower, gummies, chocolates and other products from the Chicago-area dispensaries among 37 state-sanctioned stores in Illinois that were ready to open.

The carjacking took place in the area of Chino on Saturday around 3:11 p.m., according to the Riverside California Highway Patrol. The suspected carjacking vehicle was spotted on the 91 Freeway and the suspected carjackers were possibly armed, the Riverside CHP said. Newschopper4 Bravo arrived over the chase shortly after 3:30 p.m., when authorities had gone into tracking mode. The silver vehicle was going through intersections at high speed and ignoring street lights in the Brea area. At one point, the suspected carjacking vehicle crashed into another car at an intersections and suffered notable damage, but the suspected carjackers continued forward. A short time later, the silver vehicle crashed into a wall, and two people ran out of the car and into some shrubs nearby. After running out of breath, the two suspected carjackers gave each other a hug and surrendered to what appeared to be passing good Samaritans near the site of the crash. #pursuit
