With the New York Police Department set to monitor New Year's Eve celebrations in Times Square via drone for the very first time this evening, authorities claim the iconic New York ball drop will be the 'safest place on Earth' to see in the new decade. Thousands of plainclothes and uniformed police officers will be on duty for Tuesday night's festivities, along with specialized units armed with long guns, bomb-sniffing dogs and a series of various other safety measures. But in what is considered a historic first, police drones are expected to take to the sky to keep an aerial watch on the hundreds of thousands of revelers expected to attend the big, confetti-filled celebration later this evening. #NYPD #K9

Black ice brings Minnesota freeway to a standstill and backs up traffic for miles as state is blasted by Winter Storm Gage
In the past week, one more American died of vaping-related illness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Tuesday. The epidemic of lung illnesses seems to have peaked in September, and the latest data from US health officials suggest the crisis may at last be winding down. Still, 2,561 people have been hospitalized since the 'outbreak' began, with illnesses reported in every state and the deaths of 55 people confirmed across 27 states. And earlier this month, CDC principal deputy director Dr Anne Schuchat announced what she called a 'concerning new phenomenon': more people being readmitted to hospitals for lung illness after being discharged. US officials are also more 'confident' than ever that the vitamin E acetate, a diluting agent used in many THC vaping products, is the 'cause' of the majority of cases in the 'explosive outbreak' of the condition they call EVALI, Dr Schuchat said in a recent press briefing. โ ๏ธ #vaping

A driver was not seriously injured after crashing a car Saturday while speeding and live-streaming. Connecticut State Police wrote on Facebook: โTroop E responded to a motor vehicle accident on I-95 N/B x85 in Groton City. It was later learned the operator was live streaming himself prior to impacting a metal beam guardrail on the left shoulder of the off ramp. The operator was traveling at speeds over 100 mph. Thankfully, the operator was wearing a seatbelt and not injured. Speeding and live streaming is extremely dangerous and also illegal.โ
