The threat of widespread outages loomed in Southern California after the winds moved to the Los Angeles area, where a wildfire fueled by strong Santa Ana winds prompted officials to order the evacuation of 100,000 people from their homes in the foothills of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. In the Saddleridge Fire, one man went into cardiac arrest and died at the scene. Two other casualties have been reported as a result of the blaze. The winds had increased the possibility of transmission lines toppling to the ground or being hit by tree branches and starting wildfires. The Saddleridge Fire has burned over 7,500 acres and destroyed 31 structures. As of Saturday evening, the blaze has been 13 per cent contained, ABC 7 reports. ๐ฅ๐ฑ

An overcrowded bus plunged down a hill in central Nepal killing at least 11 and injuring 108 people. The packed Helambu Yatayat bus was ferrying passengers who had been celebrating the Hindu festival of Dashain from Sindhupalchowk to neighbouring Kathmandu. Accidents are common on Nepal's poorly maintained highways, with the number increasing during the festival season when the roads are far busier and public transport overcrowded. ๐ฑ

At least two people are dead and 20 more are injured after a large portion of the Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans collapsed on Saturday morning near the city's historic French Quarter. Nearby buildings were evacuated. A 270-foot construction crane - one of two still looming over the multistory building - also was dangerously unstable, fire officials said. The hunt for the missing was suspended at nightfall over safety concerns. A statement from the project contractor said its representatives would work 'throughout the night' with emergency officials on a plan to stabilize the building. 'I heard a huge noise and thought it was a plane crashing,' said Sue Hurley, a 68-year-old guest at a hostel across the street that shuddered with the force of the collapse. Hurley said she was reminded of news accounts of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. ๐ฑ

LA wildfires continue to rage: Blazes that have killed three and forced more than 100,000 to evacuate move across Southern California, as it's revealed an electrical tower may be to blame and PG&E restores power for two million in the north. In a news release from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the declared portions of six California areas have poor air quality. The news release said: 'It is difficult to tell where smoke, ash or soot from a fire will go, or how winds will affect the level of these particles in the air, so we ask everyone to remember that smoke and ash can be harmful to health, even for people who are healthy.' They warn residents to pay attention to their immediate environment if they see smoke, soot or ash. Authorities have ordered mandatory evacuations in the Granada Hills, Porter Ranch and Oakridge Estates neighborhoods affecting about 100,000 people on the northern edge of the city in the San Fernando Valley area. ๐ฅ๐ฑ
