A traffic stop by Jones County Sheriffβs Department narcotics agents overnight led to a high-speed pursuit across three counties and the arrest of a Prentiss man now facing multiple felony charges, authorities said.
Authorities identified the driver as 41-year-old Adrian Speights of Prentiss. Investigators said Speights was asked to exit the vehicle after agents detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the truck.
As Speights opened the driverβs door, Cpl. Smith leaned into the vehicle to assist with the exit, authorities said. Speights then accelerated, dragging Smith an estimated 30 to 40 feet before Smith was forced out of the moving vehicle.
Smith suffered cuts, abrasions and bruising. He was treated at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel and later released.

One year later Pacific Palisades residents stood together, not just to remember, but to demand accountability for the devastating fire that tore through their community on January 7, 2025. The smoke has faded, but the truth hasnβt: this fire was preventable, and leadership failed citizens long before the flames ever hit.
At the βThey Let Us Burnβ rally, survivors made it clear, this isnβt just grief. Itβs a call for real change, transparency, responsibility, and leadership that protects, not abandons. From delayed brush mitigation to ignored warnings and weakened emergency systems, the decisions that led to catastrophe cannot be swept under the rug.
This past year, officials have offered narratives and sanitized after-actions reports. Residents are not just calling for change, they are demanding it.
