Hurricane Dorian continues to slam the Carolinas with winds of 120mph, 'life-threatening' floods and tornadoes, as more than 220,000 people have been left without power. Forecasters downgraded Dorian to a Category 2 storm late Thursday morning. The storm is predicted to pass Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Wilmington, North Carolina, where winds could reach upwards of 100mph. According to weather officials, the storm is about 17 miles away from Myrtle Beach, where it could make landfall today. As of 1pm Thursday, the hurricane was centered about 55 miles east-southeast of Charleston, moving north at 8mph with winds of 110mph extending about 60 miles outward. Forecasters are predicting high storm surges and drenching rains that could trigger flooding and unleash environmental hazards in areas still recovering from last year's Hurricane Florence. 🌪💦😱

The famously cantankerous Democratic senator from Vermont was at a campaign stop in Epsom, New Hampshire, on Tuesday morning when he had a run-in with a crying tot in the crowd. Sanders was talking to a voter about health care when the baby began wailing, prompting the politician to point in the direction of the noise and say: 'If we could keep that down a little bit. OK, thanks.' 😂 #lol

Vladimir Putin offered to sell Moscow's most advanced hypersonic missiles to the United States, the Russian President has said. Putin said he wanted to 'balance everything out' by offering the Kremlin's weapons to President Donald Trump at the G20 summit in June. However, the Americans rebuffed him and said they were already well on their way to manufacturing such weapons, Putin said. 'I told Donald the following: if you want, we can sell you some and this way we will balance everything out. But truth be told, they are saying that they will soon produce it themselves,' the Russian leader said. 'Perhaps they will, but why waste money when we already have spent some and can get something back, and at the same time not harm our security but rather create a situation where there is a balance.' 🚀

Oregon confirmed a second vaping related death on Wednesday just days after the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 215 possible cases of severe lung disease linked to e-cigarettes. The person who died of a severe respiratory illness had used an electronic cigarette containing marijuana oil from a legal dispensary. Its is the second death linked to vaping nationwide and the first tied to a vaping product bought at a cannabis dispensary. Officials have not determined what sickened the middle-aged adult, whether the product was contaminated or whether they may have added something to the liquid in the device after buying it, said Dr Ann Thomas with the Oregon Health Authority. Thomas declined to name the brand of the product or the dispensary during the investigation and said it's the only case of vaping-related illness or death in Oregon that authorities know about. 'Our investigation has not yielded exactly what it is in this product,' Thomas said. 😱
President Erdogan threatens to 'open the gates' to Europe and unleash another migrant crisis unless Turkey receives support for Syrian refugee 'safe zone'. Turkey, which hosts 3.6 million Syrian refugees, controls parts of north Syria where it says 350,000 Syrians have already returned. It is setting up a 'safe zone' with the United States in the northeast where Erdogan said many more could be moved. 'Our goal is for at least one million of our Syrian brothers to return to the safe zone we will form along our 450 km border,' Erdogan said in a speech in Ankara. The comments come as Turkey mounts pressure on Washington for further concessions on the depth and oversight of the planned safe zone in the northeast, and as it comes under increasing pressure in Syria's northwest Idlib region where a Russian-backed government offensive has pressed north.
