Notorious Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera was formally sentenced Wednesday to life in prison, bringing to an apparent end a decades-long, brutal and lucrative life of crime. Brooklyn U.S. District Court Judge Brian Cogan imposed extra security provided by bomb-sniffing dogs, automatic-rifle-toting U.S. marshals and other measures – all ordered because the 62-year-old former leader of the Sinaloa narcotics cartel staged two escapes from Mexican jails. "The overwhelming evil is so clear," Cogan said as he imposed the punishment in the same courtroom where a jury convicted Guzmán in February. There was "a mountain-load of evidence" showing Guzmán's guilt, the judge added.👮🏻‍♂️

At least 20 protesters have been arrested in demonstration against a $1.4 billion telescope scheduled to be constructed on top of a Hawaiian volcano that some natives consider sacred. That's according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, which reported that many of the elderly natives, or "kupuna" in Hawaiian, preferred to be arrested rather than let the telescope equipment proceed. President Donald Trump slammed Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the members of the far-left 'squad' at his campaign rally Wednesday night with supporters responding with shouts of 'send her back'. Trump accused Omar, a Somalian refugee who became an American citizen, of blaming terrorists attacks on our country. 'In other words, she slandered the brave Americans were trying to keep peace in Somalia. Omar minimized the September 11th attacks on our homeland saying some people did something,' he added. And he added, 'Omar has a history of launching vicious anti-semitic' attacks. 'Send her back, send her back,' the crowd roared - a reference to Trump's tweet on Sunday where he suggested the members of the 'squad' should go 'back where they came from' if they were unhappy. #MAGA

The protester screamed and waved signs showing and old photo of Trump with Jeffrey Epstein and the words 'child rapist' at the rally on Wednesday in Greenville, North Carolina. Epstein is a financier accused of sexually abusing young girls, who was at one time in Trump's social circle. 'He goes home now to mommy and he gets reprimanded, and that's the end,' Trump joked after the brief disruption. 😂

Twelve Israelis aged between 16 and 18 covered their faces as they appeared in court in Cyprus on Thursday accused of gang-raping a 19-year-old British woman at a hotel in Ayia Napa on Wednesday morning. In her police complaint, the woman said she was at a party with one of the men who she met three days earlier and had previously slept with, before they went back to the hotel where they were both staying. Cypriot reports say the woman was taken to a room when the other 11 men burst in and attacked her while laughing and filming on their phones. The men were in court for a bail hearing where police asked to extend their detention by at least a week while they examine DNA evidence. 👮🏻‍♂️
