Hurricane Barry barreled its way through Louisiana but quickly weakened to a tropical storm on Saturday, bringing torrential downpours and powerful winds which caused widespread flooding and flight cancellations. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards said none of the main levees on the Mississippi River in the state had failed or been breached so far, as flooding and catastrophic scenes reminiscent of 2005's Hurricane Katrina were envisaged. But he warned at a news conference on Saturday that the storm is just beginning and the state faces significant threats in the days ahead. 💦🌪😱

Hong Kong's streets have once again descended into violence as protesters clashed with police who fought back the masses with riot shields, batons and pepper spray. Thousands of demonstrators marched on the border town of Sheung Shui today to rail against Chinese traders, tapping into the recent anger over proposed extradition laws to swell their support. The march began peacefully but it wasn't long before nasty skirmishes broke out when protesters began lobbing hard hats at officers who retaliated by clobbering the demonstrators. 👮🏻‍♂️😱 #retract
