Retired Assistant Chief Receives Award of Distinction
On August 17, 2024, members of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Impaired Driving Section were on hand in Washington D.C., attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 2024 Impaired Driving and Traffic Safety Conference supporting the continual efforts towards impaired driver identification and enforcement. As a bonus, retired CHP Assistant Chief Helena Williams was awarded DRE Emeritus from IACP. This is awarded to formerly certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) who served the program with the highest honor and distinction and are no longer certified due to retirement or promotion. Asst. Chief Williams was a strong supporter of the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program during her career with the CHP, and even in retirement, she continues to support the training of law enforcement professionals across the nation to remove impaired drivers from the road.
The CHP congratulates Asst. Chief Williams on her award and wishes her health and happiness in her retirement!

We are very proud of the recognition given to our very own Officer Solorio for her outstanding efforts toward safety. Officer Solorio led the State in seatbelt enforcement in 2023. Her enforcement efforts, along with the countless opportunities she had to educate, undoubtedly saved lives.
