Firefighters in Maui are battling a large fire on the island that has forced evacuations, according to local reports.
Maui Mayor Mike Victorino told KITV the fire is about three miles long, and has been difficult to contain because it's burning in inaccessible areas.
The luxury Maui resort Hotel Wailea was evacuated as a precaution, reports Hawaii News Now. Officials say seven fire trucks, two water tankers and a ladder company were fighting the blaze, said the report.
"I am hoping and praying, asking people to keep a watchful eye to stay safe, and to comply with evacuation orders if more are issued," Victorino said in an interview with KITV.
