AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has confirmed that two people are dead following a reported hostage situation near MoPac Expressway. As of 5:45 p.m., officials said a heavy police presence, including members of the SWAT team, was working on the 1900 block of West 35th St. Police said officers responded to what was initially a "disturbance at a building" 911 call. APD said a few nearby homes were evacuated. Initial reports indicated the suspect may have entered a nearby medical office, Children's Medical Group, and taken an unknown number of people hostage. As of 8 p.m., police could only confirm it was an ongoing and active SWAT situation at a commercial building. By 6:45 p.m., APD's mobile command center had arrived on the scene. APD, the Travis County Sheriff's Office, the Austin Fire Department and Austin-Travis County EMS were all on the scene as of 8 p.m. (Read more.)

Gutfeld on the left using cancel culture to silence opposition. What do some people do when they gain power over you? If it’s the party of the new McCarthyism, they shut you up. That's why leftists try to ban books, muzzle conservatives and protest the inclusion of non-liberal voices. They silence businesses, drop entire media platforms, trash careers and toss folks off social networks. The Dems crow "oh, oh, oh, oh, these are private companies." Well, so are health care ompanies. If I were banned from hospitals, I guess I could freelance prostate exams. The claim that private companies can do whatever they want is based on the idea that they’re private. But sorry, no, you can't build a Twitter in your backyard. Instead, it’s really about a new fascist mob out to silence all dissent, using the "private business" as another excuse. And it’s genius. The First Amendment can't protect you when tech is in business with Uncle Sam. And that's the system the left now embraces because they can use it against you.
So far in 2021, police officials say there’s already been a 40% increase in car thefts. But hey - let's defund the police, right?
