A Utah mom and her 12-year-old son were among three victims shot dead in Nevada by their upstairs neighbor, who was killed after he took the boy hostage in a car during a standoff with police on Tuesday, authorities said. Police responded around 11 a.m. to reports of gunshots and “a subject down in the doorway” at an apartment complex, Henderson police said. Officers found the bodies of two women, ages 39 and 33, and an injured 16-year-old girl. All three had apparent gunshot wounds. Officers located the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jason Neo Bourne, armed with a handgun and barricaded inside a nearby vehicle with the 12-year-old boy. “As officers attempted a de-escalation dialogue with the suspect, the suspect held his firearm to the juvenile’s head, resulting in an officer-involved shooting,” police said.

A Kansas father has been returned to his home state from Oklahoma to face capital murder charges in connection with the deaths of his two sons, the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday, according to a report. The suspect, Donald Jackson, 40, was arrested Oct. 24 while driving through Oklahoma with his two daughters, 7 and 3, after a multi-state Amber Alert was issued for the girls. He was about 500 miles away from his home in Leavenworth, Kan., near the Texas border. Prosecutors allege Jackson killed his two sons, Logan, 14, and, Austin, 12, and then fled the state with his daughters, KSHB-TV in Kansas City, Mo., reported. Jackson had been held in Beckham County, Okla., since his arrest and waived the right to an extradition hearing late last month. If convicted of capital murder, Jackson could face life in prison or the death penalty, KHSB reported.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office released body camera footage of an incident in early October in which a man was shot by deputies. It happened Sunday, Oct. 3 after a 24-year-old Camarillo man called 911 to report that he was feeling suicidal. Sheriff Bill Ayub appears in the newly-released video detailing the events leading up to the #shooting. In audio of the call released by the sheriff's office, the man is heard telling dispatch of his intentions to kill himself. The man told dispatchers that he had both a gun and a knife in his possession. At one point during the call, the man appears to become agitated and says he is going to "start hurting people." The sheriff's dispatcher is heard attempting to get the man to put the gun down before deputies arrived on scene, but the man is heard on the audio clip refusing to do so, saying he wanted to be shot by police. A dog accidentally fired a gun into its owner's leg recently, the Plano, Texas, police department said this week. The owner was picking up his dog when its paw got lodged in the trigger of the gun in his waistband, sending a bullet through his thigh. The man was not badly hurt. The bullet didn't hit any major arteries, and he was able to drive himself to the hospital. The Plano Police Department took the opportunity to remind Texans to be responsible with guns. "When you are carrying your firearm, make sure you have a holster that is safe and protects the trigger from any inadvertent discharges. When you are not carrying your firearm, store it in a gun safe or other locking device to keep them out of the hands of others. Always assume the weapon is loaded and treat it as such. Keep your finger off the trigger until the weapon is ready to be fired. Practice, practice, practice. Know your weapon, how and when to use it, and be a smart and responsible gun owner."

Leavenworth, KS – Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Corporal Daniel Abramovitz died in the line of duty on Oct. 30, after his patrol vehicle crashed into a school bus as he was heading home at the end of his shift. The fatal collision occurred near the intersection of McIntyre Road and 211th Street at approximately 4 p.m., KSHB reported. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, (KSP) the 60-year-old corporal was driving his unmarked 2014 Ford Explorer patrol vehicle westbound on McIntyre Road when the 62-year-old driver of a northbound 2006 school bus failed to yield, The Garden City Telegram reported. Cpl. Abramovitz crashed into the side of the bus, which went off of the roadway and overturned. Cpl. Abramovitz, a 26-year veteran of the LCSO, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. #RIP

An El Centro College police officer was wounded in a shootout near a 7-Eleven store in downtown Dallas Thursday evening, according to authorities. Dallas Area Rapid Transit officers were patrolling near the West End Station when shots rang out around 6:30 p.m. on North Austin Street, according to a DART spokesman. The El Centro campus is just across the street. The El Centro officer and a suspect "were engaged in a disturbance regarding a vehicle," according to the Dallas Police Department. The suspect had a warrant out for his arrest. When police tried to take him into custody, he allegedly resisted. Then gunshots rang out -- striking both the officer and the suspect. The DART officers found the wounded El Centro officer, who was taken to Baylor Hospital just up the road. He was in stable condition. The suspect also was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to Dallas police.
