Philadelphia officials have said they will release the police body camera footage and the 911 tapes in connection with the officer-involved shooting of Walter Wallace Jr., an armed Black man reportedly with a mental health history, following three nights of unrest in the city and elsewhere in the country. Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw pledged Wednesday that her office would release the video and audio footage “in the near future,” but will first meet with Wallace Jr.’s family “to ensure they get an opportunity to view the materials first.” The city’s top cop announced the plan during a Wednesday afternoon press conference with Mayor Jim Kenney and other city officials to go over any updates in the case and detail the impacts of Philadelphia’s second night of riots and looting. An estimated 1,000 people took to the streets on Tuesday night into Wednesday, ransacking big-name stores, such as Walmart and Foot Locker. During the course of the night, 81 people were arrested, 23 police officers were injured and at least 14 people were shot – including two who suffered fatal injuries, officials said. Also on Tuesday into Wednesday, nine PPD vehicles were damaged and the city reported nine ATM explosions, city officials said. Since the unrest began following Wallace Jr.’s death, police made 172 felony and misdemeanor arrests and reported damage to 17 PPD vehicles. A total of 53 police officers were injured, including a sergeant who was “intentionally run over” by a pick-up truck driver, Outlaw previously said. All but one of the injured officers had been released from the hospital as of Wednesday afternoon. Kenney instituted a citywide curfew that began on Wednesday at 9 p.m. and extended through 6 a.m. Thursday. He also said the National Guard would be deployed and was expected to arrive in the city on Friday and Saturday.

Modesto police released body cam video from a police #shooting in a Walgreens pharmacy. Officers opened fire at the suspect at the end of a frantic chase last Wednesday. Police say the chase started when officers tried to pull over an SUV, but the driver kept on going. Eventually, the driver pulled into the Walgreens parking lot off of McHenry Avenue. A passenger that was in the SUV then got out and went into the store. An attempt to detain a passenger who ran into a Walgreens after a traffic stop led to another chaotic chase. Body camera footage shows the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Daniel Ahlschlager, running from a Modesto Police officer. At one point, Ahlschlager slipped and the officer got a look at a weapon in his hand. (Read the Full Story.)

BREAKING! Several streets in Salem, OR, are closed Thursday morning due to police activity following a shooting. The Salem Police Department said an officer-involved shooting occurred in the area of 17th Street Northeast and Center Street Northeast. No further information about the shooting has been released by police at this time. Police said 17th Street NE is closed between Chemeketa Street and State Street and Court Street NE is closed between 17th Street and 14th Street. The public should avoid the area. This is developing news. @police_frequency will update this story when new information becomes available.

Philadelphia police say 212 people have been arrested and 57 officers were injured after a deadly police-involved shooting sparked unrest for a third night across the city. There will be no curfew in effect on Thursday night, according to the city. However, Mayor Jim Kenney and Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw urge all residents to remain home this evening unless travel is absolutely necessary, such as for work.

In total, 40 people were arrested for various offenses Wednesday:

29 Burglary
5 Civil Violation Notices (CVN) for Failure to Disperse / Curfew2 Stolen Auto
Philadelphia police and federal agents said they found a van containing low-grade explosives. Spokesman Rob Cucinotta of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the explosives and incendiary devices were found Wednesday night while the city was in the midst of an overnight curfew.

He said several people associated with the van found downtown were being investigated. Officials announced Thursday afternoon that multiple people were in custody.

The Philadelphia Police Department increased presence across the city and several hundred members of the Pennsylvania National Guard are being deployed.

On Tuesday, SKYFOX flew over the scene as protesters clashed with police in West Philadelphia, while dozens of people in Port Richmond were seen looting multiple stores, including a Walmart and Foot Locker amid the unrest.

Police requested all residents in the 12, 16, 18, 19, 24, 25 and 26th Districts remain indoors except when necessary on Tuesday night due to widespread demonstrations that turned violent with looting.

Walter Wallace Sr. condemned the looting and destruction while calling for justice for his son.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability released body-cam video from an incident just off South Lake Shore Drive, where an officer fired shots at suspects who were in an SUV that had just hit the officer. COPA released video of the Aug. 29 incident in accordance with its policy of releasing police-involved #shooting video within 60 days, but hasn’t ruled if the officer was justified in their use of force. The Aug. 29 incident began around 10 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle in the 4900 block of South Lake Shore Drive with the suspects still on the scene, COPA said in a statement. In the video, officers pull up to an SUV, exit and tell its occupants to exit. One officer walks in front of the car. The SUV then pulls forward and appears to strike the officer. The car continues forward and the officer fires four shots, as the car drives away. (Read rhe Full Story.)
