An anti-police protest in Denver outside police department headquarters escalated into violence Saturday night as rioters began smashing windows, setting small fires in the street, throwing rocks and hurling fireworks toward officers. At one point, members of the crowd in what was dubbed the "Give Em Hell" protest were seen trying to tear down a fence that was surrounding the Statehouse, FOX 31 Denver's Evan Kruegel reported. At least eight arrests were reported, according to Kruegel. At another point, a rioter was seen throwing a bicycle at a police officer. Rioters also set fire to an American flag. Some of the fireworks exploded close to officers. One officer was reportedly injured but it's unclear how serious the injuries were. A Reddit post that earlier publicized the "Give Em Hell" protest claimed Denver officials had not addressed activists' calls to defund the police and said that bill calling for a referendum on replacing the police with a Peace Force was vetoed.
Portland Police Bureau Press Release: Rocks and bottles were thrown, paintball guns fired, and lasers targeted officers during a riot Saturday night into Sunday morning. On August 22,, 2020, a group of about 250 people gathered at Normandale Park at Northeast 57th Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street. At about 9:15p.m, the gathering proceeded to march to the south. Many participants in the march carried hardened shields, helmets, armor, gas masks, and wore all black clothing. At least one participant targeted the Portland Police Air Support Unit airplane with a green laser. This is extremely dangerous and could cause disorientation for the pilot, in addition to permanent eye damage. (Read more.)

A groom in Texas suffered a gunshot wound to the chest after being shot by a guest at his own wedding. Witnesses, including the bride, were refusing to cooperate with the Harris County Sheriff's Office as they attempted to track down a suspect and a motive for the shooting. Deputies responded to gunshots on the 16800 block of Anna Green Street around 11.26pm but were initially unable to find the victim. He was located in a residence across the street with a gunshot wound in a critical condition and transported to Memorial Hermann hospital via helicopter.

Dash and body cam video of an Aug. 5 officer-involved #shooting in Othello was released by investigators. Othello police officer Eduardo Martinez fired his gun during a confrontation with a suspect, believed to be armed, in an alleyway near the 800 block of East Larch Street in Othello. The suspect, Aaron Urbina, escaped police the night of the shooting after an extensive search. Martinez’s dash cam video shows the officers’ attempt to contact Urbina. One officers yells that the suspect has a gun during the confrontation and Martinez fires his weapon multiple times as Urbina flees on foot. Martinez remains on paid administrative leave as the Central Basin Investigative Team continues to investigate.
Lima, Peru -- At least 13 people have been killed and three others injured in a stampede at a nightclub in Lima, Peru, as partygoers attempted to escape a police raid on the venue, according to Orlando Velasco Mujica, general of the Peruvian National Police. Police were called to the Thomas Restobar in the Los Olivos district of Peru's capital city on Saturday evening to shut down an illegal party that more than 120 people were attending. In an official statement, the Ministry of the Interior reported that the police did not use "any type of weapon or tear gas to clear the premises." When people began to flee the 2nd floor venue trying to get away from the police they were crushed on the stairs. Police said in a statement they have started an investigation to identify the owners of the nightclub and those responsible for the event. Police said 23 people were arrested.

Meanwhile, in Brazil. The structure of a water tank collapsed in Diadema, in Greater São Paulo, this Sunday afternoon, around 3 pm. According to the Fire Department, no one was hurt. Three firefighter vehicles went to the scene to answer the incident. Cars that were parked were completely dented by the masonry structure of the water tank.
