BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Michigan -- A Bloomfield Hills police sergeant died Sunday after suffering a heart attack while on duty. Sgt. Steven Splan suffered the heart attack hours after cutting and removing a large tree that had fallen onto Bloomfield Hills Parkway off of Woodward Avenue in the afternoon and died later after returning to the station, according to The Oakland Press. A procession of about 20 police vehicles accompanied the fallen officer's trip from the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office in Pontiac to downtown Rochester on Monday, where the fire department presented a flag in his honor.Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester is handling arrangements, with visitation scheduled for Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be take place Friday at St. Andrews Church in Rochester, with staging starting at 9 a.m., family at 11 a.m., and services at noon. #RIP

Pasco police release video showing footage from officer body cameras during a May shootout with cousins who were murder suspects. ROCKWALL, Texas -- A Rockwall police officer died due to complication from COVID-19 on Monday. Officer Tracy Gaines was admitted to a local hospital on July 11 and underwent various treatments, according to a news release. Gaines joined the Rockwall Police Department in September 2005 and most recently served as a School Resource Officer at Rockwall High School. During his career, he also served as an SRO at Williams Middle School and was a Field Trianing Officer in the Patrol Division as well. Gaines also had a distinguished military career, serving 20 years with the Air Force before becoming a police officer. "The Rockwall Police Department is grateful for the incredible outpouring of support for his wife and two sons," the department said in a statement.
