Brazil — Dozens of criminals blew up a bank branch and exchanged gunfire with police officers in a mid-sized city of Brazil's Sao Paulo state, officials said Thursday. According to state authorities, around 30 armed men participated in the overnight attack in the city of Botucatu, located 150 miles from the state capital, then made their getaway. It wasn't immediately clear if the robbery was successful. Sao Paulo’s Public Security Secretariat said two officers and one suspect were wounded, and police apprehended rifles, vehicles, cash and ammunition. The suspect died after reaching the hospital, and police are searching the region for the others, according to the secretariat. Television network Globo reported the assailants were heavily armed, wore bulletproof vests and attacked multiple bank branches in the city. The network also said some residents were taken hostage during the attacks and that the suspects shot up a police station and set vehicles afire before escaping.

Two pilots have died after their planes collided in mid-air as they tried to fight a wildfire burning in Nevada. Authorities say the mid-air collision occurred just before 1pm on Thursday, about 17 miles from the town of Caliente and 150 miles north of Las Vegas. The crash involved two Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) which were working to help contain the Bishop Fire, which has scorched more than 14,000 acres of land in just two days. Both pilots - who have not yet been publicly named - were alone in their aircraft at the time. No one was injured on the ground. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the crash late Thursday, and said an investigation was underway. According to News 3 Las Vegas, 'records showed the aircraft were based out of Cedar City, Utah and had previously been used to fight several fires in Southern Utah.' The Nevada Bureau of Land Management released a statement expressing their condolences to the victim's families.

WARNING GRAPHIC CONTENT! Flagler County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Brittany Kershaw announced the new charges against Steven Barneski in a news release Thursday. Those charges were aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Barneski, 30, was shot four or five times the night of July 1 when, according to reports, he pointed a 9mm Beretta at three sheriff’s deputies who showed up at his Bunnell house to serve him with warrants for his arrest. An incident report indicates the weapon’s safety was disengaged and there was a live round loaded in the chamber of the gun. #shooting
