PHOENIX – In May, Sheriff Mark Lamb of Pinal County, Arizona, made waves when he said he wouldn't enforce Gov. Doug Ducey's stay-at-home order, in part, because he thought it was unconstitutional. On Wednesday afternoon, Lamb then announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19. Lamb posted on the Pinal County Sheriff Office's Facebook page that he had been invited on Tuesday to join President Donald Trump at the White House and was tested before the meeting as part of the protocol. Lamb said he believes he came into contact with an infected person during a campaign event he held on Saturday. Lamb didn't say if he wore a mask or practiced social distancing at the event.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Massachusetts Police Officer Approaches Man Accused of Firing Gun, But Disarms Him Without Ever Drawing a Weapon. Police Sgt. Shawn Barbale stood within feet of the man suspected of firing gunshots just minutes earlier. The 19-year veteran officer began questioning the suspect who fit the description of the person involved in the shots fired call - a Black male wearing gray sweatpants and a hooded sweatshirt. Barbale asked for the man’s identification which was hanging from his pants. As Barbale kept one eye on the suspect, he carefully placed the man’s identification on his cruiser. The sergeant explained to the man he fit the description of a man accused of firing shots in the neighborhood. The sergeant then noticed something in the front pocket of the man’s hoodie. A Louisville Metro Council member has received backlash after taking to Twitter to criticize a protester who was hit by a car Wednesday morning. Amid protesters blocking off streets around Jefferson Square Park Wednesday morning and several getting arrested, an individual in a car appeared to be confronted by about 10 protesters near the intersection of Liberty and Sixth streets, as seen on surveillance video footage provided by the Louisville Metro Police Department. LMPD spokesman Lamont Washington said Wednesday that police are looking for the driver of that vehicle to investigate further. "PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: If you don’t break the law and stand in the middle of the street, you don’t get run over," Piagentini wrote in a tweet Wednesday morning. "Thank you for your time. Please share."

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department decided to suspend in-person classes for a training program last week at its facility east of Los Angeles after nearly three dozen cadets tested positive for the coronavirus. All 160 cadets in the Southern California program were tested after a cadet who showed symptoms tested positive for the virus. In all, 33 cadets were positive for the virus, including 20 deputy trainees and 13 from other agencies, The Los Angeles Times reported. Public information officer Jodi Miller said Thursday said none of the trainees had a fever. The infected cadets will continue to quarantine for another week and are continuing with remote training. San Bernardino County has reported 8,454 coronavirus cases -- including 414 Thursday – and 230 deaths. California Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a statewide order requiring people to wear masks whenever they’re in public as cases rise amid business reopenings. California has reported 167,085 cases and 5,355 deaths.

A 50-year-old black man who died in police custody was heard telling officers ‘I can’t breathe’ at least 17 times after he was arrested for cycling without a safety light in Las Vegas. Byron Williams had been flagged down by Las Vegas Metro Police officers on September 5, 2019 after they spotted him riding his bike in the dark just before sunrise at 5.48am. Williams pedaled away from the cops when they tried to approach him before eventually taking off running and a chase ensued for about a quarter of a mile and ended outside a nearby apartment complex, according to news reliese. Body camera footage of the incident released days later showed cops pinning him to the ground and placing him in handcuffs as he complained about not being able to breathe. Byron Williams, 50, died in police custody last year after he was arrested for cycling without a safety light in Las Vegas.

The Justice Department announced federal arson charges Wednesday against a 33-year-old Philadelphia woman accused of torching a pair of police vehicles during protests in the City of Brotherly Love. Lore-Elisabeth Blumenthal allegedly appears on video taking a burning piece of wood from a police sedan and shoving it into a police SUV as both were parked near City Hall, according to U.S. Attorney William McSwain, of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Many of the nationwide protests against police brutality and systemic racism in recent weeks have been organized on social media. But those same platforms also provide opportunities for law enforcement to keep demonstrators under surveillance. Oregon police fired 21 gunshots at an African-American man who struck a white officer with his vehicle in an apartment complex parking lot late Saturday night, authorities said. At least two of those bullets hit the man, identified as Victor Dale, Jr. He was reported in serious condition in Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center’s intensive care unit, Oregon Police Chief Mike Navarre. The #shooting occurred about 9:50 p.m. in the parking lot of the Kingston Court Apartments, and stemmed from a 911 call that turned out to be a prank. A woman called police in a “frantic” condition, reporting that a man wearing a zombie mask was trying to break into her apartment, he said. Mr. Dale had locked himself in a silver Buick Rendezvous sport utility vehicle after an altercation with a woman at the location. As they approached, Mr. Dale accelerated and struck Officer Turner, who was in front of the SUV. Over the following five seconds, the two officers fired 21 gunshots before the vehicle came to a stop.

You can take some people at face value. A Florida man with an apparent tattoo of a machete on his face was arrested for allegedly attacking someone with a machete over the weekend, authorities said. Justin Couch, 25, is accused of slicing the victim’s forearm with the blade, leaving him unable to move his left hand, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. The victim, an adult man, said the incident started Monday at around 2:30 p.m. when Couch began arguing with him “for no reason” and kicked him out of a home in Tarrytown, deputies said. When the victim asked if he could grab his wallet and cellphone before leaving, Couch allegedly told him “There’s nothing here for you, leave.” He then “began striking the victim in the arm and leg” with the flat side of a machete’s blade, officials said. Couch then apparently took the the victim to an unknown friend’s house, who took the man to the hospital. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery.
