1,000 American troops would be stationed within 20 miles of the Canadian frontier, between official border checkpoints, and use sensor technologies to detect irregular crossers, Global News reported. Under this proposal, the US military - which shares continental defense responsibilities with their Canadian counterparts โ would advise American border agents who would be sent to intercept them. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discouraged militarizing the border. 'Canada and the United States have the longest unmilitarized border in the world and it is very much in both of our interests for it to remain that way,' Trudeau said. 'We have been in discussions with the United States on this,' he told a news conference, without giving details.
Los Angeles recorded its first case of coronavirus five weeks before New York City, yet it's New York that is now the U.S. epicenter of the disease. Public health officials are keeping a wary eye and warning that LA could end up being as hard hit as New York in coming weeks, in part because a planned increase in testing may uncover a dramatic surge in cases. Testing in Los Angeles County is expected to increase from 500 per day to 5,000 by the end of the week. 'I would love to be able to say with all certainty that's where we're not going,' Los Angeles Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said when asked about New York's numbers. 'We would be foolish not to prepare for a similar scenario here in LA County.' Los Angeles County, which contains its namesake city of 4 million people plus an additional 6 million residents, had just over 1,200 cases and 21 deaths.

This year is expected to be the fifth that the Atlantic basin can expect 'above normal' tropical activity as it heads into hurricane season, according to a forecast released this week. Meteorologist from Accuweather, including top forecaster Dan Kottlowksi, are anticipating between 14 to 18 storms during the season this year. Seven to nine of those storms could be hurricanes, with two to four expected to become major hurricanes. 'It's going to be an above-normal season,' Kottlowski said. 'On a normal year, we have around 12 storms, six hurricanes and roughly three major hurricanes.' Hurricane season typically lasts from June 1 through November 30. The 2019 season included 18 storms throughout the period, including hurricane Dorian, and caused some $11billion in damage.

โ Lootings on markets in Northern Recife, Brazilian Northeast amid COVID Crisis
Late Friday, the Miami Herald reported that the city had recorded its second COVID-19 death - a 79-year-old man who has not yet been publicly identified. As of Friday evening, there were 869 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Miami-Dade county. Florida as a whole now has 3,192 cases - and has recorded 45 deaths. The case number has exploded in recent days, sparking fears that Florida is on track to become the next coronavirus epicenter in the US. Experts say with millions of Americans heading down to the Sunshine State to escape winter or for spring break - and drive-thru testing sites running out of kits - it could be a perfect storm for a rise in infections. What's more, nearly four million senior citizens live in Florida, a huge concern considering the elderly are the most vulnerable to contract the virus.

The #FBI has become aware of recent cases in New Mexico of a phone scam known as virtual kidnapping in which a victim is told his or her family member has been kidnapped and a ransom demanded, according to news release. Unlike traditional abductions, virtual kidnappers have not actually kidnapped anyone. Instead, through deceptions and threats, they coerce victims to pay a quick ransom before the scheme falls apart. If you suspect a real kidnapping is taking place or you believe a ransom demand is a scheme, immediately contact the Albuquerque FBI Division at (505) 889-1300 or local law enforcement.
