The massive blaze that broke out this morning in Scottsboro has consumed mostly houseboats, according to Scottsboro Fire Chief Gene Necklaus. "There were numerous people rescued from the water who had escaped by going into the water," Jackson County Chief Sheriff's Deputy Rocky Harnen told The Associated Press shortly after dawn. "We're trying to get divers down here to search for possible victims in the water." "We have some confirmed fatalities, but we don't have an exact number yet," Harnen added. Phoenix Police Officers also do it all. 😉
This was certainly a scary situation. At approximately 7:57 p.m. yesterday, an officer responded to a business in the 3300 block of N Arthur Ashe Boulevard in Richmond, VA, for the report of a robbery that had just occurred. An unknown suspect wearing a “Scream” mask walked into the convenience store, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the register before fleeing the scene on foot toward Westwood Avenue. The suspect was last seen wearing the mask, a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black sneakers, and black gloves. At this point, detectives are investigating the robbery as possibly related to previous incidents where the suspect wore a similar mask. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. #WANTED

U.S. officials confirmed Monday that a manned, American surveillance aircraft crashed in Afghanistan’s Ghazni province, USA Today reported. Army Col. Sonny Leggett, a spokesman for the U.S.-led coalition in Kabul, denied Taliban claims that other aircraft had crashed. “While the cause of crash is under investigation, there are no indications the crash was caused by enemy fire,” Leggett said in a statement. “We will provide additional information as it becomes available. Taliban claims that additional aircraft have crashed are false." Leggett identitfied the military plane as a Bombardier E-11A. Monday's plane crash is not expected to derail U.S.-Taliban peace talks if it turns out to have been an accident. The Bombardier E-11A is a U.S. Air Force electronic surveillance plane. Video from the crash site circulating on social media appeared to show its charred ruins.
(WARNING: 21+) #LAPD Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred early Saturday afternoon. On January 11, 2020, around 12:40 p.m., radio calls were generated by citizens reporting a "Man with a Gun" in the area of South Sepulveda Boulevard and South Venice Boulevard, an intersection that acts as the border between the City of Los Angeles and Culver City. A field supervisor assigned to Pacific Patrol Division was in the area and responded east on South Venice Boulevard toward the location. Upon arrival, the supervisor observed the suspect on the south sidewalk of South Venice Boulevard at Tuller Avenue. The supervisor stopped his police vehicle, exited and immediately observed the suspect pointing what he believed to be a handgun at him. A nearby witness also observed the suspect and believed the item in his hand was a gun as well. An OIS occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire. He fell to the ground and was then taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was treated at scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics and was then transported by Culver City Fire Department Paramedics to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. 🔫👮🏻‍♂️ #shooting

China's deadly #coronavirus outbreak will carry on for at least another six months and infect tens of thousands of people at a minimum, according to scientists. The Wuhan coronavirus is now confirmed to have infected at least 4,500 people around the world and to have killed 106 in China. Germany, Sri Lanka and Cambodia yesterday became the latest countries to declare cases. Now a report written by an expert at the University of Toronto has said the 'best case scenario' is that the outbreak dies down after summer this year. With almost 5,000 cases confirmed already in January, this could mean another 25,000 cases if the infection continues to spread at the same rate. Experts, however, believe there have already been at least that many cases in China and some predict up to 40,000. ☣️
