(WARNING: 21+) A report from the state’s attorney has concluded that the deadly use of force from an officer-involved shooting that happened last July in Hartford was justified. The shooting happened on July 26 on an on-ramp leading to I-84. The Hartford Police Crimes Unit was on a routine patrol and tried to stop a car in the area of Park Terrace, during a criminal investigation. The driver of the car, later identified as 41-year-old Alphonso Zaporta of Windsor, fled from officers, heading toward the I-84 on-ramp from Capitol Avenue. Police said the car came to a stop due to ongoing construction traffic, as well as a stop stick deployment. That’s when officers approached the car. Police said Zaporta got out of the car, violently attacked them, and gained control of an officer’s gun. That’s when Zaporta was shot and killed. 🔫👮🏻‍♂️ #shooting

According to the report, a firearm was also found on the driver’s side floor area of the Maxima. The report also states that Zaporta had made statements giving insight to his intent on July 26, saying “July 26, 2019 was going to be the last day of his life,” that “he was not going back to jail,” “and if the cops stopped him, he would run, and if he could not run, he would fight and try to grab the officer’s gun because he wanted to die,” and that “he was ready to die.” At the end of the report, it said the investigation revealed the deadly use of force was “entirely appropriate.” 👮🏻‍♂️

A mass alert telling millions of Ontario residents about a potential disaster at the Pickering Nuclear Station was a giant oops, say officials who took nearly an hour to recognize and admit the mistake. An announcement on cellphones in the style of an Amber Alert went out about 7:19 a.m. from the Ontario government, Ottawa Citizen reports. It told of an unspecified “incident” at the plant that houses eight nuclear reactors on the edge of Lake Huron in Pickering, east of Toronto. The advisory told people there had been no release of radioactivity, and that unidentified energy crews were at the plant. It said people nearby were safe “at this time.” Meanwhile there was no announcement from Ontario Power Generation, which owns the plant. Durham Regional Police told reporters they didn’t know of an incident. ☢️

New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was arrested In California Saturday evening after allegedly jumping on the hood of someone’s car. Edelman was in Beverly Hills ‘walking around at about 9 PM when for some unknown reason he hopped up on the car, causing damage.’ Edelman, who was reportedly drinking, was charged with misdemeanor vandalism and later released. #facepalm

The Canadian province of Ontario on Sunday apologized for wrongly raising the alarm about an incident at a massive nuclear power station near Toronto and blamed a training exercise mistake, Reuters reports. Angry local mayors demanded an inquiry, saying the emergency message about the ageing Pickering plant had caused unnecessary distress. At around 7:30 a.m. ET cell phone users across Ontario - the most populous of Canada’s 10 provinces - received an alert about the supposed incident. An several hours later the Ontario Power Generation authority said the message had been a mistake. The initial message said there had been no abnormal leak of activity from the plant, which is located on the shores of Lake Ontario some 30 miles east of downtown Toronto. #facepalm

A police officer was hit by a train while chasing a man accused of burglarizing a home. Polk County Police Officer Andy Anderson is now in the hospital with numerous broken bones, FOX 5 ATLANTA reports. Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd says Officer Anderson was trying to capture 18-year-old Jayden Moats. Officer Anderson had tracked moats from a home on College Street that had just been broken into. "He walked to the tracks and saw the suspect toting the stuff from the house down the tracks. He had a getaway car on the other side of Piedmont Avenue. He had a tv and a guitar when Andy saw him," said Chief Dodd. Officer Anderson was so focused on catching his suspect, he didn't realize how close he was to the train when it came speeding down the tracks. The train clipped him on the right side of his body. Officer Anderson was rushed to the hospital. He has 5 broken ribs, a broken arm, and a concussion.
