French trade unions disrupted rail services, cut power output and brought demonstrators onto the streets in cities across France on Thursday in a make-or-break push to force President Emmanuel Macron to abandon his planned pension reform, Reuters reports. The countryโs hard-left unions rallied supporters hoping to regain momentum at a time participation in a 36-day long public sector strike wanes and opinion polls show public backing for the industrial action dropping. Police fired teargas at protesters in Nantes, western France, and in Paris, where demonstrators hurled projectiles at officers in brief skirmishes and trailed smoke flares.
One person was killed and three others were seriously injured in a shooting Wednesday morning in Canadaโs capital city of Ottawa and a "coordinated response" is underway as police hunt for a suspect, according to officials. The Ottawa Police Department said the incident happened about 7:30 a.m. in the 400-block of Gilmour Street, located in the central part of the city. "Many injuries reported. A coordinated response is underway," police tweeted shortly after the shooting. "Please avoid the area." In a news release, police said that officers were called to the scene after reports of multiple gunshots. Officers arriving at the scene found several people injured. "At this time, three people have been transported to [a] hospital with serious injuries and one person has been confirmed deceased," authorities stated. The incident was taking place about a half-mile south of Parliament Hill, CBC News reported.
The U.S. government's road safety agency is sending a special team to Indiana to investigate a fatal crash involving a Tesla electric vehicle, reported FOX News. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Wednesday that its team will check the crash scene and inspect the Model 3 vehicle involved in the Dec. 29 crash with a parked firetruck on Interstate 70 near Terre Haute. The crash, which killed the driver's wife who was a passenger in the Tesla, is the second one to be investigated in the past two weeks by NHTSA. Also on Dec. 29, a Tesla Model S sedan left a freeway in Gardena, Calif., at a high speed, ran a red light and struck a Honda Civic, killing two people inside, police said. In both cases, authorities have yet to determine whether the Teslas were operating on Autopilot, a system designed to keep a car in its lane and a safe distance from other vehicles. Autopilot also can change lanes on its own.

(WARNING: 21+) #LAPD Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved-Shooting (OIS) that occurred in a Hollywood community, late Monday morning. On November 25, 2019, around 11:20 a.m., a male suspect (later identified as 22-year-old, Nathaniel Pinnock) entered a local auto parts store located on the northeast corner of Fountain and Highland Avenue and committed a robbery, while armed with a machete. Witnesses then flagged down LAPD, uniformed patrol officers, assigned to Hollywood Division and directed them to Pinnock, who was walking northbound on McCadden Place from De Longpre Avenue... ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ปโโ๏ธ #shooting

... The officers followed Pinnock and observed him walk into the drive-thru of restaurant located on the corner of McCadden Place and Sunset Blvd. Pinnock then entered the passenger side of a patron's (victim's) vehicle with the machete. The victim (driver) exited the vehicle and Pinnock climbed over into the driver's seat. In the officers attempt to detain Pinnock a less-lethal option was used, which was ineffective. Pinnock then stole the vehicle and drove out of the drive-thru at a high rate of speed and collided into two police vehicles, at which time the car came to rest at the intersection of McCadden Place and Sunset Blvd. As Pinnock exited the vehicle armed with the machete, the officers utilized additional less-lethal options. Despite these efforts, Pinnock ran from the vehicle eastbound on Sunset Blvd with the machete still in hand. The officers chase him on foot and after a short distance, Pinnock changed his direction and charged towards one of the officers while holding the machete in his right hand, resulting in an OIS. Pinnock was struck by gunfire and fell to the pavement, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Pinnock to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. A machete was located at scene and booked as evidence. Although one officer sustained minor injuries no other innocent bystanders were injured during this incident. LAPD's specialized Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. A representative from the Office of the Inspector General responded and monitored the scene investigation.
The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners and the Office of the Inspector General to determine the thoroughness and accuracy of the investigation and whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD's policies and procedures. Additionally, representatives from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office who responded to the scene will review the subsequent FID investigation; evidence collected and witness statements to determine if the force used by the officers(s) was reasonable. ๐ฎ๐ปโโ๏ธ#LAPD
