UPDATE: At least three people are injured, and a suspect has been detained, after a shooting at the Main Post Office in Des Moines, Iowa.

Des Moines police said the suspect has been detained and that the victims suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
“They’re all at the hospital; they are being cared for right now,” Sgt. Paul Parizek said of the victims.
Parizek said officers responded within three minutes. The shooting happened on the second floor of the post office and reports started coming in of shots fired around 9:10 a.m. CT.

BREAKING: The FBI and our partners have arrested Luis Benítez Alcántara, a Mexican judge who allegedly accepted bribes and used his position to aid former FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitive Ryan Wedding and his associates.

Benítez Alcántara was a district judge in Mexico City who allegedly accepted $2 million in exchange for granting bond to and ordering the release of Wedding’s second in command, while Wedding was orchestrating a billion-dollar transnational criminal organization and the largest supplier of cocaine to Canada with connections in Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S.

Benítez Alcántara is charged with nine counts of accessory after the fact for assisting the individual in order to hinder or prevent his apprehension, trial or punishment.

Footage captured an attempted stabbing inside UIC’s Student Center East, showing a student on the floor appearing to fend off an attacker armed with a large knife. The student’s roommate said the victim had slipped on liquid from a thrown bottle and kicked the attacker in the jaw before escaping.

UIC officials said the suspect, also a student, allegedly tried to use an incendiary device before the attack and was arrested following the November 4 incident at 750 S. Halsted St. The victim was unharmed, and officials reported no ongoing threat to campus.
