Today, we are mourning the untimely loss of one of our own. Driver/Engineer, Ted Carpenter, passed away this morning, on his 48th birthday, after serving Dallas Fire Rescue and the City of Dallas since May 2002. 

Ted touched countless lives with his faith, resilience, and optimism, and his passing is a tragic loss for both his entire family....biological and departmental. Please keep us all in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.

A black bear was caught on camera taking a dip in a backyard spa to beat the heat in a foothill neighborhood of Los Angeles County Sunday afternoon. A La Crescenta-Montrose resident captured video of the bear wandering through their backyard on Cloud Avenue at 4:52 p.m., just before the bear plunges into their spa.

NEW: DOJ announces it is monitoring polling sites in four Michigan cities for the state's primary election today, including Detroit, Hamtramck, Lansing, and East Lancing. DOJ says its Civil Rights Division will monitor for compliance with federal civil rights laws and to ensure ballot security and transparency.

DOJ has monitored poll sites for years in both Republican and Democratic administrations.

BREAKING OVERNIGHT: The Gann Fire is burning near New Hogan Lake in Calaveras county, California, and actively burned through the night. The fire remains active this morning and is estimated at 2.100 acres.

The fire has been pushing south towards the old Walker Fire burn scar. Night capable helicopters have been active all night dropping water. Dozens of crews and engines, plus dozers have been ordered and on scene.

BREAKING: DOJ charges 19 defendants in alleged $4M Philadelphia Medicare and Medicaid fraud.

The Justice Department has expanded its Northeast Health Care Fraud Strike Force to Philadelphia, establishing a new office in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania to combat Medicare and Medicaid fraud. As part of this initiative, federal and state authorities charged 19 defendants accused of defrauding the system of over $4 million through schemes such as billing for services while incarcerated, working other jobs, or logging impossible work hours.
