At least two people are dead and 20 more are injured after a large portion of the Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans collapsed on Saturday morning near the city's historic French Quarter. Nearby buildings were evacuated. A 270-foot construction crane - one of two still looming over the multistory building - also was dangerously unstable, fire officials said. The hunt for the missing was suspended at nightfall over safety concerns. A statement from the project contractor said its representatives would work 'throughout the night' with emergency officials on a plan to stabilize the building. 'I heard a huge noise and thought it was a plane crashing,' said Sue Hurley, a 68-year-old guest at a hostel across the street that shuddered with the force of the collapse. Hurley said she was reminded of news accounts of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
Police have identified the four men who were killed during a shooting inside an illegal gambling club in New York City early on Saturday. The slain men were identified as Terence Bishop, 36; Dominick Wimbush, 47; Chester Goode, 37; and John Thomas, 32. All were residents of Brooklyn, according to police. Chicago police say four people were fatally shot and one was wounded while they ate dinner in their apartment on the city's Northwest Side. The shooting happened around 5:30pm Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. First Deputy Superintendent Anthony Riccio says a 67-year-old man with a history of issues with his neighbors is in custody. Riccio says the man first went into an apartment and shot three men and a woman as they ate dinner. The man then went to a separate unit in the building and shot another woman. Police say one victim is in critical condition. A weapon was recovered. Riccio says the man had a history of complaints from other residents but investigators 'don't know what set him off.' Police say the victims were all adults, though their names have not been released. Mayor Lori Lightfoot called the shooting 'devastating.' An investigation is ongoing. ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ
A 15-year-old girl has been charged with the murder of a teenage boy who was stabbed aboard a Metro train in Washington DC. Police say 15-year-old Jaquar McNair was stabbed inside an Orange Line Metro train near the US Capitol on Friday. The boy succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning. The stabbing occurred around midday Friday at the Capitol South Metro station, about a block from the Cannon House Office Building, where some House members have offices. Police said the attack arose from a dispute among a group of teenagers. They said McNair was taken the hospital and underwent surgery. Officers found the 15-year-old several blocks from the Metro station. The girl, whose named has not yet been released, was arrested on a charge of assault with the intent to kill. The threat of widespread outages loomed in Southern California after the winds moved to the Los Angeles area, where a wildfire fueled by strong Santa Ana winds prompted officials to order the evacuation of 100,000 people from their homes in the foothills ofโ€ฆ
LA wildfires continue to rage: Blazes that have killed three and forced more than 100,000 to evacuate move across Southern California, as it's revealed an electrical tower may be to blame and PG&E restores power for two million in the north. In a news release from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the declared portions of six California areas have poor air quality. The news release said: 'It is difficult to tell where smoke, ash or soot from a fire will go, or how winds will affect the level of these particles in the air, so we ask everyone to remember that smoke and ash can be harmful to health, even for people who are healthy.' They warn residents to pay attention to their immediate environment if they see smoke, soot or ash. Authorities have ordered mandatory evacuations in the Granada Hills, Porter Ranch and Oakridge Estates neighborhoods affecting about 100,000 people on the northern edge of the city in the San Fernando Valley area. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Live at the #FreeHongKong and #OneChina protests in Newcastle, I've gathered opinions of both sets of protesters and both believe strongly in their cause, it's getting more heated as time goes on, and all mingled in one area.
Ecuador's President Lenin Moreno has ordered the army on to the streets of the capital after a week-and-a-half of mass protests over a scrapped state fuel subsidy descended into violence. Masked protesters attacked a television station, newspaper and the national auditor's office, setting it ablaze and sending black smoke billowing across the capital Quito's park and cultural complex around 1pm local time. About two hours later, a group of several dozen masked men swarmed the offices of the private Teleamazonas television station in northern Quito, set fires on the grounds and tried to break into the building where about 20 employees were trapped. President Moreno blamed the violence on drug traffickers, organised crime and followers of former president Rafael Correa, who has denied allegations he is trying to topple Mr Moreno's government.
