Countywide Services Division Chief, Jason Wollack initiated the 51st Annual Memorial Torch Relay Run. The Memorial Torch Relay Run honors the courage and dedication of Los Angeles County Peace Officers who have given their lives in the line of duty for the safety and wellbeing of our communities.

The Memorial Torch Relay Run comprises 56 segments of varying lengths, beginning its journey from the historic β€œHall of Justice,” situated in downtown Los Angeles, and spanning a distance exceeding 300 miles across the County of Los Angeles. This run will pass through 23 Sheriff’s stations, 8 custody facilities, through our transit services division, and specialized units over the course of three days.

Approximately 2000 department personnel will take part in this relay run to pay tribute to those we have lost in the line of duty and to show respect to the families of these heroes, acknowledging the profound loss of their loved ones.

The first Memorial Torch Run began on May 13th, 1975, establishing a long upstanding tradition proudly honoring the memory of those brave and dedicated individuals. The Memorial Torch signifies the eternal flame of remembrance for all the courageous men and women who lost their lives in service to others across Los Angeles County.

At the conclusion of this journey, the Memorial Torch will be used to ignite the β€œCeremonial Flame” of the 57th Annual Los Angeles County Peace Officers Memorial where the names of 8 brave fallen peace officers will be formally honored.πŸ’™

JUST IN: President Donald J. Trump is now back in the U.S.

The president waved and pumped his fist as he stepped off Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews on Friday evening following his multi-day trip to China.

Trump has said that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping largely agreed Iran must not have a nuclear weapon and that the Strait of Hormuz should be reopened.

WATCH IN FULL: President Donald J. Trump's interview with Bret Baier in Beijing

POTUS: "I think the most important thing is relationship. It's all about relationship. I have a very good relationship with President Xi, and with China... trade has been very strong... there's a lot of things happening for the farmers."

POTUS: "It’s always been the biggest thing for [President Xi], Taiwan. Now, with me, I don’t think they'll do anything when I’m here. When I’m not here, I think they might, to be honest with you... I'd like to see everybody making chips over in Taiwan come into America."

POTUS: "We are leading China by a lot in the AI race... and we’re going to win it... President Xi was very surprised at how well we've done with AI. When it started, they took this gigantic lead, and now, we are substantially ahead of them in AI."

POTUS on Taiwan: "If you kept it the way it is, I think China is going to be okay with that β€” but we're not looking to have somebody say, 'let's go independent because the United States is backing us.'"

POTUS on Iran: "We really had the confines of a deal; no nuclear, they were going to give us the dust...and every time they'd make a deal, the next day it’s like we didn't have that conversation...they’re crazy, and you know what? Because of that, they cannot have a nuclear weapon."

POTUS on Iran: "I'm going to do what's right. I have to do what's right... The Strait will be opened, they will not have a nuclear weapon, and the world will go on."

Today, on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor all law enforcement officers who have been killed in the line of duty, and the sacrifices they have made to keep our communities safe.

Each year, the names of fallen officers are added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. This year, 363 names were added, including 109 officers lost in 2025. Among the additions from previous years is Oregon Game Warden Arthur S. Hubbard, who was killed in 1914 while serving a search warrant in Jackson County.

Earlier this year, OSP provided information to ensure Warden Hubbard’s name could be added to the memorial. Members of the OSP Honor Guard traveled to Washington, D.C. to honor him and all of Oregon’s fallen heroes.

The Oregon State Police has lost 34 members to line-of-duty deaths. These brave individuals made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the people of Oregon, and we honor their heroism today and every day.
