NEW: Cook County's chief judge says releasing a 5-time felon with 4 pending felony cases was not a mistake.
"How do you predict what another human being is going to do?"
โStart with the obvious โ his criminal history,โ says Chief Weitzel
"Talley remained on the loose until the morning of April 25, when, prosecutors say, he violently robbed a female cashier at a Northwest Side dollar store, got arrested, feigned illness, and then used a secreted handgun to murder Officer John Bartholomew and wound a second officer as they guarded him at Swedish Hospital."

On 5/08/26, as part of Operation Lone Star, TxDPS K-9 Bona and her handler assisted the U.S. Border Patrol in tracking a group of illegal immigrants through rugged terrain across Maverick and Uvalde counties.
During the operation, K-9 Bona tracked for nearly 10 miles, ultimately helping locate seven illegal immigrants in total. One illegal immigrant was found hiding in a corn field attempting to avoid apprehension.
This highlights the endurance, training, and determination of our DPS tracking canines and their handlers as they work alongside our federal partners to prevent gotaways and protect public safety.
