Please, praying for the Douglas County Sheriff's deputy who was shot in the line of duty this afternoon.ππ»
Nebraska: "The DCDO can confirm that we have one deputy who was injured in the area of 19th and Washington Street. This is an active crime scene, please avoid the area and give first responders in law enforcement personnel room to work."
The Omaha Police Department is assisting the Douglas County Sheriffβs Office with an investigation in the area of 19th and Washington.
Please avoid the area for the time being as the investigation progresses."
More details will be provided as they become available
UPDATE: A Douglas County deputy was shot in the leg and a suspect was killed Friday during a warrant arrest in Brown Park.
Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson said law enforcement officers were on Washington Street to execute a warrant for a man believed to be armed. When officers attempted to arrest him, a gun battle broke out between the man and law enforcement.
One deputy was struck in the leg during the exchange.
"Luckily, law enforcement officers on the scene apply to tourniquet to the shot," Hanson said.
The deputy was transported to Nebraska Medicine and is listed in stable condition, according to Spencer Head with DCSO.

It was our honor to welcome the Law Enforcement United bicyclists from across the United States who stopped at the Frank Bland Regional Training Center on Wednesday, May 6, as part of their divisional ride.
These dedicated men and women pedal more than 800 miles over eight days, beginning in San Francisco and ending in Southern California. Along the route, they place 62 memorial wreaths in honor of fallen heroes, staying true to their mission of honoring the fallen and remembering the survivors.
After completing the western portion of their journey, members of LEU join fellow riders on the East Coast to complete an additional 200 miles, ultimately coming together in Washington, D.C. during National Police Week.
Thank you for taking the time to honor those we have lost and for allowing us to be a part of your meaningful mission.
Sheriff Shannon Dicus
