Washington DC: A Secret Service agent was shot Saturday night after a gunman opened fire outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, prompting a major security response.

According to confirmed information, the agent was struck in a protective vest, preventing more serious injury. The agent is expected to be OK.

POTUS confirms WHCD shooter is from California and has been captured. Law enforcement is heading to his apartment.

"A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of Secret Service... One officer was shot, but saved... the vest did the job. I just spoke to the officer, and he's doing great."
