A Dallas jury on Wednesday sentenced former police officer Amber Guyger to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting a black neighbor after she mistakenly walked into his apartment and mistook him for an intruder. The state asked the jury to sentence Guyger, who is white, to a minimum of 28 years for the killing. Judge Tammy Kemp ruled the jury could consider a "sudden passion" defense that could reduce the sentence to two years, but in the end, jurors opted for a higher sentence.

The FBI runs bizarre Facebook ads to recruit Russian spies and Russian-speaking informants in Washington DC in counterintelligence war against the Kremlin. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has been found to be running target ads on Facebook in the Washington DC area that appear to be designed to seek out and recruit Russian spies and informants, a report by CNN has revealed. A vast number of ads have appeared on the social media site over the past few weeks, with one such sponsored post showing a stock image of a girl at graduation with her family, with Russian text overlaid which reads, 'For your future, for the future of your family.' Other ads included a picture of a chess board with the caption, 'Time make your move'. #delete_facebook

NASA scientist has painted a picture of the unfathomable - the speed of light. A series of images show just how fast light can travel through space. In a perfectly empty vacuum, a particle of light is capable of travelling 186,282 miles per second or about 670.6 million mph -- it can complete a full orbit around Earth 7.5 times in a second. #science
The hundreds of vaping illnesses and over a dozen deaths are likely caused by toxic fumes from e-cigarettes, a first-of-its kind study suggests. More than 800 Americans have suffered severe lung damage and, as of Wednesday, an additional death was reported in Alabama, bringing the national total to 17 vaping-related fatalities. As illnesses and deaths have mounted, scientists have been scrambling for answers and have cautiously proposed a number of theories. At last, Mayo Clinic researchers can offer a clearer explanation: it's not lipid pneumonia, as some have suggested, but 'direct damage' akin to what happens to lungs exposed to chemical fumes. ☠️ #vaping
A record-setting October heatwave has seen temperatures soar to the 90s across some parts of the US, with schools closing in Ohio due to the hot weather and surfers hitting the waves in New York City. The extreme weather saw New Orleans hit 95 degrees, Nashville reach 98 degrees and Mobile, Alabama, experience temperatures of 96 degrees. In Washington DC temperatures remain high as runners have been pictured jogging topless and tourists stopped for iced drinks. But it is a different story in Montana, where one woman has filmed himself jumping off a car and disappearing into 6 foot-deep snow. Temperature charts show the country split in two as temperatures plunged to 37 degrees in Billings, Montana and 47 degrees in Idaho Falls. ☀️🥵❄️☃️
