TxDPS Troopers shut down a dangerous human smuggling and narcotics operation after a smuggler driving a white Ford Escape led troopers on a high-speed pursuit in Cameron County.
During the pursuit, a trooper executed a PIT maneuver, safely bringing the vehicle to a stop. Multiple occupants bailed out, but troopers quickly took action.
The driver, Anna Lilia Arriaga of Pflugerville, TX, and front seat passenger, Dilon Butler of Brownsville, TX, were both arrested and charged with:
βͺοΈ Possession of Marijuana
βͺοΈ Human Smuggling
βͺοΈ Evading Arrest
Troopers seized 3 bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 145 lbs, whichβalong with the illegal immigrantsβhad just crossed the Rio Grande through criminal organizations operating out of Mexico.
Two illegal immigrants were referred to U.S. Border Patrol. Arriaga and Butler were transported to the Cameron County Jail.
This case highlights the ongoing commitment of Texas DPS in disrupting criminal smuggling networks and protecting our communities.
The mission continues.

What started as a FLOCK alert for a stolen vehicle quickly turned into a coordinated response by Officers on the ground.
After locating the vehicle and confirming it was stolen, one of our officers attempted a traffic stop. The suspect chose to flee. Rather than initiate a pursuit, the officers deployed a GPS tracking device and monitored the vehicle from a safe distance.
A short time later, the vehicle came to a stop in a nearby neighborhood. Officers moved in and located the suspect nearby. He attempted to run but was quickly taken into custody.
During the arrest, Officers recovered a firearm from the suspectβs backpack, along with marijuana. The suspect showed signs of impairment, and a warrant for a blood draw was obtained.
This is what it looks like when training, technology, and teamwork come together. A dangerous situation brought under control without the need for a pursuit, reducing risk for everyone involved.
