The Wauconda Police Department in Illinois is facing a heartbreaking moment after the unexpected passing of Officer Christian Pascente, who lost his life Monday after he took his own life.

Officer Pascente had joined the department on September 6, 2022, and quickly became a valued member of the force. Fellow officers say he served with dedication, treated people with kindness, and took pride in protecting the community.

In just a few years of service, he earned the respect of his teammates and the trust of many residents. His passing has left a heavy sadness among those who worked with him and those who knew him personally.

NEW: PA bus driver told to take off MAGA hat leaves job: 'It's patriotic'

A Littlestown bus driver claims his freedom of speech was violated after being told not to wear his "Make America Great Again" hat while driving kids to school.

Dave Bonhoff, a retired Baltimore County police officer, said he decided to step away from serving the Littlestown Area School District in response.

"If that wasn't a condition of my employment, I'd be back to work tomorrow. I miss the kids. Those kids and I had a great relationship," he said.

That is—until one of his students complained about his MAGA hat, prompting a call from his boss at Krise Transportation the morning of February 18.

Memorial honors San Joaquin County Sgt. Jason Whelen.

A memorial was held Saturday for a man remembered as a steady protector of San Joaquin County and a leader who lived his life in service to others.  Inside the hallowed halls of Christian Life Center in Stockton, family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers gathered to honor the legacy of Sgt. Jason Whelen of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

JUST IN: A Chicago Police officer has been shot at 114th and Corliss, the officer was wounded in the upper thigh and was self-transported to Christ Hospital.

UPDATE: The shooting happened around 11:11 p.m. in the 11200 block of S. Corliss Avenue, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The on-duty sergeant was traveling in a marked patrol car when he was shot in the leg, police said.
The sergeant took himself to a local hospital for treatment and was listed in good condition.
A suspect was taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered.
