NEW: A protester at Fremont High School is injured after being hit by a vehicle in Nebraska.

Was the protester charging the vehicle? Another reason why these kids should be in school getting an education instead of playing in the road. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

A Seattle officer was injured during the arrest of a violent felon on federal probation, the police department reported.

The incident occurred on Jan. 28, just before 9 p.m., when officers patrolling the 3600 block of 33rd Avenue South noticed a car without license plates illegally parked between two handicapped spaces.

Before getting out of the car, police said the driver appeared to remove a gun from his waistband and hide it on the floorboard.

The driver initially claimed to officers that he only had an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Upon inspection, officers discovered the open container of tequila and spotted the gun.

As officers tried to detain the man, he allegedly resisted, leading to a struggle. Police used a taser on the man during the confrontation, and one officer sustained injuries requiring medical treatment at a hospital.

Two people, including a police officer, were injured during a large fire Thursday evening in Joliet, Illinois.

The Joliet Fire Department said at around 2:20 p.m., crews were sent to the 0-100 block of South Eastern Avenue to investigate reports of a structure fire with people possibly trapped inside.

Crews arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke coming from a one-story brick commercial building. The strong fire eventually broke through the roof, fully engulfed the building and caused a partial collapse, according to investigators.

Officials said a person working inside the building suffered burns to their hands and a police officer was also injured. However, it is currently unknown what that injury to the officer is.

The fire department added no one was taken to the hospital as a result of the fire.

A Gaston County NC sheriff’s deputy had to be hospitalized over the weekend after being injured in a sledding accident.

Sgt. Casey Tignor broke his hip and leg on Sunday while he was sledding and playing with his kids in the snow during last weekend’s storm.

A father of four boys, he did what most dads would do in the snow: he grabbed a sled from the garage, took his boys outside and headed for the biggest hill in the neighborhood.

Courtney Tignor said she knew her husband had broken something the moment she heard the impact.

Thankfully, it wasn’t his head, but the deputy still had to be taken to the hospital, where doctors determined the 16-year veteran had broken his pelvis and suffered a fracture below the knee.

The deputy’s wife said the family has been overwhelmed by the support they have received and thanked everyone, especially the doctors and nurses at CaroMont Hospital, for their care.

Pennsylvania State Police say a New York man is facing charges after a patrol vehicle was intentionally struck during a police pursuit in Susquehanna County.

Troopers from the Gibson barracks responded to the incident shortly before 10 a.m. on January 8 along Brackney Hill Road in Silver Lake Township. According to investigators, a suspect vehicle rammed a Broome County sheriff’s deputy’s vehicle while attempting to flee.

Police identified the suspect as a 48-year-old man from Johnson City, New York. The injured deputy, a 26-year-old man from Binghamton, New York, was treated for injuries sustained during the collision.
