The Los Angeles Police Departmentβs Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred in Rampart Division.
On December 2, 2025, at around 11:00 a.m., an on-duty, plainclothes detective assigned to Rampart Area was stopped at a red tri-light on Olympic Boulevard at Alvarado Street. The detective was alone, driving a plain, black Dodge Charger without emergency lights.
The detective observed two males fighting in the street in front of his vehicle. The suspect, later identified as 42-year-old Johnny Valencia, chased the victim while armed with a knife and began stabbing him, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The victim was also transported to a nearby hospital and treated for stab wounds he sustained during this incident. A knife was recovered at the scene.

BREAKING: The U.S. Department of Justice has opened an investigation into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over allegations of a conspiracy to obstruct federal immigration enforcement agents.
The Justice Department is investigating Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, both Democrats, over alleged conspiracy to impede federal immigration agents. The probe follows public statements by Walz and Frey criticizing the deployment of nearly 3,000 ICE and Border Patrol agents in Minneapolis for immigration enforcement. The officials have condemned the federal operation for causing chaos and undermining public safety. Federal authorities are examining whether their rhetoric violated 18 U.S.C. Β§ 372, a law against conspiring to obstruct federal officers. No formal charges have been announced, and neither the Justice Department nor Walz and Frey representatives have provided further comment.

Cumberland, Md. (AP) β Three members of the Zizians, a cultlike group linked to six deaths across the U.S., were granted permission Friday to work together in preparation for their upcoming trial on trespassing, weapons and drug charges. Jack LaSota, Michelle Zajko and Daniel Blank are among a group of young, highly intelligent computer scientists drawn together by radical beliefs about veganism, gender identity and artificial intelligence.Authorities have described LaSota, a transgender woman known as Ziz, as the apparent leader of the βextremist group.β Since 2022, Zizians have been tied to the death of one of their own during an attack on a California landlord, the landlordβs subsequent killing, the deaths of Zajkoβs parents in Pennsylvania, and a highway shootout in Vermont that left another member and a U.S. Border Patrol agent dead.
LaSota, Zajko and Blank were arrested in February after a property owner said he found them living in box trucks on his land in Frostburg, Maryland. Zajko was charged in Vermont with lying on her application to buy the gun used to kill agent David Maland in January 2025, while LaSota faces separate federal charges of being an armed fugitive.
