Tulsa Fire Department, Oklahoma, sadly announced the death of Stephen Mixon, an assistant fire marshal who suffered a medical emergency while on duty.

Mixon joined the Tulsa Fire Department in March 1998 and served the city for nearly 28 years, according to the department.

Most recently, Mixon worked in the department’s Code Enforcement Office as an assistant fire marshal. In that role, he focused on ensuring buildings across Tulsa were safe for residents, workers, and visitors.

Iowa City Police officer injured while chasing down suspect.

Officers were called to the Burlington Street Kum & Go at 5:15 for an intoxicated subject making threats. The suspect, 28-year-old Ngong Garang of Des Moines, was found a short time later on the 100 block of East Burlington Street. Garang allegedly started to run when he was told he was under arrest, and he was eventually tackled and taken into custody by an officer who suffered a groin injury as a result.

Garang is now charged with Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury and Public Intoxication. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 13 months in jail.
