The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in 77th Street Division.

On November 20, 2025, around 1:30 p.m., 77th Street Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an ADW, suspect there now, in the 2100 block of W. 76th Street. An LAPD manned air unit, from Air Support Division, responded to the call and began orbiting over the location. The air crew officers observed the suspect, later identified as 57-year-old Anthony Whitsey, standing in the front yard of his residence. The tactical flight officer monitored Whitsey and observed as he fired approximately 3-5 rounds from a pistol at the orbiting black and white helicopter. The TFO broadcast an “Officer Needs Help” call on 77th Street base frequency.

As officers arrived at the scene and were directed by the air unit to Whitsey’s location. The officers observed Whitsey to be holding a gun while standing in a front yard. The officers gave Whitsey multiple commands to drop the handgun, but he failed to comply with the directions, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred. Whitsey dropped the pistol, remained in his front yard, but refused to comply with the officers’ commands to surrender. As additional officers arrived at the scene, officers fired multiple rounds from the 40mm Less-Lethal Launcher, striking Whitsey. Whitsey retreated into his residence and refused to surrender.

Metropolitan Division’s K-9 and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) personnel responded to the scene for a barricaded suspect. Whitsey exited his residence and was taken into custody after he was bit by a K-9.

Whitsey was not struck by gunfire. Whitsey was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and cleared for booking. Whitsey was booked for 245(C) PC, ADW on a Police Officer. The firearm possessed by Whitsey was recovered and booked as evidence. No officers or other community members were injured as a result of this incident.

Newly uncovered documents reveal that California Attorney General Rob Bonta was aware that one of his major donors was involved in serious criminal activity, including prostitution rings targeting elected officials (including minors), money laundering, illegal political donations, contract fraud, and manipulation of straw donors.

A letter obtained by ABC7 reveals that a defendant Andy Duong in the corruption case tied to former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao secretly recorded a compromising video of Bonta. This may also explains why the Attorney General extorted $468,000 in campaign funds on legal fees connected to FBI investigations.

In a May 9, 2024 letter to Bonta, Mario Juarez described his knowledge of criminal actions by the Oakland-based California Waste Solutions and its owners, the Duongs.

“I have firsthand knowledge of the Duong family’s illegal activities, including money laundering, illegal political contributions, falsified contracts, and the use of straw donors. Their actions also involved facilitating prostitution for elected officials, including minors.”

Bonta “was far more aware of the Duongs’ activities than anyone suspected.” said Steve Tavares with East Bay Insider.

"It is interesting that this letter came out, gosh, more than a year ago now, and some of its allegations seem to have been proven sufficiently correct so that the feds are willing to take action on some of them," said " Wilson Leung federal prosecutor.

Now, who are the Duongs?

Former Oakland DEI Mayor Sheng Thao has been criminally indicted by a grand jury on corruption charges—bribery, racketeering, and perjury.

In 2024, Madam DEI became the first mayor in Oakland’s history to be recalled, following a surge in crime, murder, and homelessness.

This is just one of the indictments.

The indictment: Thao agreed to give city contracts and appointments to the (local businessmen) Duongs. In return, David and Andy Duong paid for $75,000 in attack ads against Thao’s opponents during her mayoral election and paid another $95,000 to Andre Jones for a no-show job—promising more—all to benefit Thao and Jones personally.

📝This scandal surfaced when political watchdog Raphael Rothschild filed a formal complaint with the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC), accusing Bonta of violating the Political Reform Act by extorting nearly half a million dollars in campaign funds for what appears to be personal legal protection.

The Baltimore County Police Department sadly announced the death of Detective Paul Hoke, 49, a 30-year veteran of the Homicide/Missing Persons Unit. Detective Hoke passed away after a medical emergency while on duty on New Year’s Eve, surrounded by family.

Texas: An off-duty Caldwell County deputy is dead after being shot overnight in north Austin.

At around 2:09 a.m. Sunday morning, APD officers responded to Club Rodeo at 9515 N. Lamar Blvd. after a caller reported that an officer from another law enforcement agency had been shot.

Austin police arrived at the scene and found the victim, identified as a deputy with Caldwell County Precinct 3 Constable's Office, with trauma to his body. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The deputy was later identified as Aaron Armstrong. He had been with the department since October 9, 2024

Video captures the moments police shot a man armed with a box cutter Sunday afternoon in Allen Park, Michigan.

The incident happened near Southfield Road and Dix Highway, where officers are seen attempting to convince the individual to disarm.

The man continued moving toward officers while holding the knife, prompting police to open fire. The individual was struck by gunfire. His condition has not been released at this time.

A Virginia State Police trooper was injured in a crash during a pursuit on Interstate 495 Sunday afternoon, according to the Virginia State Police. 

At 3:47 p.m., a trooper attempted to stop a Honda Accord for reckless driving on Interstate 495 westbound. The vehicle refused to stop, leading to a pursuit, a press release says. 

The pursuit ended when the suspect's vehicle exited at Van Dorn Street. The trooper terminated the pursuit to avoid a collision with another vehicle, resulting in the police vehicle going off the road and striking a tree.

The trooper involved in the crash suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital, according to the release. The injuries are not considered life-threatening.
